I had the EXACT same problem last week when I got a T3! I finally figured it out though.

Remove the lens Set the shutter at 1/125 Set the ASA at 100 PUSH THE ON-OFF COLLAR PAST OFF (counter clockwise - see the little red C there! - Ahah!)

The needle on the light meter should line up with the black :block: near the bottom on the left side of the aperture scale. If you are using 1.4V batteries instead of the 1.35V Mercury batteries the needle will go PAST the block to the bottom of the scale.

What I did is shoot a roll of slide film and bracketed the shots by changing the ASA figure by two stops on either side of the film rating (film rated at 100, took shot at 25, 50, 100, 200, & 400) On my camera with the 1.4V batteries I need to set the film ASA to about 1/3 stop LOWER than it is rated - for 100 ASA film to the little "dot" just below the 100 on the scale.
