Could you please, tell me how and why Hawaii became a state?

hawaii became a state on August 21, 1959 but didn't officialy become the USA 50th state untile 1961.

Actualy Hawaii became part of the u.s in 1959. But was discoverd in 1778 by captain James Cook....
