thr 058 Oil Price-Air Fares Oil Prices Hit Transatlantic FaresLondon, Nov. 28, IRNA -- High oil prices are having an increasing impact on air fares as airline companies seek to pass the increase onto passengers, particularly on transatlantic routes. According to research compiled by American Express, economic fares from London to the US rose by 35 per cent between July and September compared with the previous three months.
In contrast an index of economy fares from the UK to western Europe rose by 3.3 per cent during the same period, the Financial Times reported Tuesday.
The research was said to have also revealed that the cost of air travel from the UK was more expensive than continental Europe. The increase in fares follows crude oil prices nearly doubling over the past 18 months. HC/JH End ::irna 28/11/2000 16:55
