As I said on thegallowgate.com's fantastic new fan forum (ahem), I'd like to see us go for someone like Matthew Upson. Young and English and apparently not so happy in the reserves at Arsenal. Has some good first team experience. Also I'd go for Camara at Liverpool. There you go, that'sabout 5 million spent.

Man City had a bid of £5-6 million turned down for Eider Gudjohnson. We couldn't even afford him!!

The berekley Tavern whitley bay have an exiting 21 yr old Attacking midfielder called Richie , he's currently banned for spitting in a refs face so hes available...........

I think I'd try as a stop-gap only to get a big, experienced CB like Winston Bogarde, who's fed up warming the bench at Chewsee, and apparently could be had for ca. £1 million. Matthew Upson at Arsenal is another good, in fact probably better, suggestion, but its doubtful they would release him and he could be costly, say £3-4 million.
I'd then like to see us break the bank to buy a top-class inspirational player, like Marion Pahars, to play in the Pedro role alongside AS, when he's fit of course.
We need someone good enough to lift the entire Club - and its fans.

they're refusing to let the Seedorf story die on CNN/ESPN. Even mention a figure of 10m. They're not [that] liable to report newspaper gossip/inventions, so at best it's a joint deal for Keane/Seedorf [p/x Dyer?], at worst, it's another avenue of 'hit and hope'.

If there is any credence in this story why the hell would we want Clarence Seedorf? Another central midfielder, all be it a very good one but it wouldn't exactly be an understandable transfer, not unless we get Robbie Keane as well.

Sure enough if we play three in the middle with Bassedas, Acuna and Seedorf. Not likely though.

why would we want Clarence Seedorf?

The answers so simple, he's one of the best midfielders in the world, slightly better than what we've got at the minute!

How can we justify buying another Central midfielder when we are crying out for a centre back and a forward and a left winger?

Two of our recent signings, Acuna and Bassedas, are central midfielders, so how can Bobby say he wants another one? Is he going to flog one of them this early?

During Euro2000, Boby Robson was critical of Seedorf, saying he hadn't been a threat for about three years. Can't see it, can you?

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2000

Just to go sideways a bit here, Who knows of any left wingers who are top Internationals, unhapy at there current club ,wanting to play in England, have conections with YBR , Under 28, and less than £3 million.

The only one I can think of is Stephen Glass! Eliminating Ronaldo for the time being - enlighten us Rik.

You haven't seen someone else at SJP have you by any chance?

Can't really say anything untill I have some confimation ,(after all it's not like me to start unsubstantiated rumours) I am actively seeking some confirmation at the moment, just hope Midas or Team Twaddle don't beat me to it.

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2000

Luis Enrique? Nah, would cost more than £3mm.

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2000

Ok, Here's a clue , He is 24 year old left footed Uraguayan and generally plays as a forward. He would be VERY CHEAP to buy but his wage demands would be a huge stumbling block. He is reported to be on 35k a week at his current club but won't sign an extension as he wants £60 k a week.

Greedy foriegner Yes, but brilliant player who could either play up front with Shearer or on the left wing.

The Likes of teamtalk are half onto it, they have found out that Newcastle are in contact with the club, but believe the target to be another player at that club.

cant see it myself but i did find this little snippet from soccerage:

Will Recoba finally reach an agreement with Inter? (REUTERS)11/21/2000. Uruguayan playmaker Alvaro Recoba’s future at Inter Milan will likely be decided next weekend, when his agent Francisco Casal arrives in Milan for a series of meetings regarding the player’s contract renegotiation.

For the past six months, Inter directors have been discussing the financial terms of a new Recoba contract with Casal, but an agreement has still not yet been reached due to the great distance that separates both parties.

Any new contract would begin in June, 2001, but the most recent reports indicate that Recoba wants a three-year deal worth $4.7 million per season, while Inter are refusing to pay him more than $3.4 million per season.

Recoba has recently attained first-choice status at Inter, and he has even worn the captain’s armband, but Juventus and AC Milan are both waiting to pounce for his services if negotiations with Inter fall apart.

So:

1/ Rik's lying 2/ they've got the teams in B&W mixed up 3/ it's the usual %$£^%$@^%$

and the vote from New Zealand goes to: trois

Well according to the 442/Deloite Rich list we are the twlefth richest club in the world. So as Cuba Gooding Junior saqid in that all time classic movie, Jeery Maguire.

Show me the money

-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000

He also said it in the more famous movie Jerry Maguire

-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000

MIN ...."1/ Rik's lying "???? How dare you. Seeing your posting from Soccer Ace only confirms my source that "Something is happening between Newcastle and Inter and it's nothing to do with Seedorf.Either we are losing Dyer, Getting Ronaldo or Keane on loan or doing a deal with them over Recoba.OR POSSIBLY a combination of the above.

-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000

Can you add any credence to those statements Rik.

-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000

DBs motion seconded.

Rik - i'd NEVER accuse you of lying - that's why i voted for option three: it's the usual newspaper &%*£%£*%£.

Of course, if it all turns out to be true [which i hope it does], i'll be the first to buy you a pint.

If you can't give us anymore than that a) There's no point in posting it i.e. I know something you don't knaa na na na na OR b) You're in no better position to comment than sombody who goes to TeamTalk and says "We're talking to this Club and I reckon what is going to happen, I know so much I'll give you three of four possible scenario's, one of which might be remotely true.
