Settin & thinkin. Kinda long post. [stories]

Well, it's about 20 degrees F outside and snow is quickly fillin up my yard and driveway. Done'n checked the genset and made sure it would go if we need it tonite. Backed the old 4 wheel pull chev where lil dumplin and I can get to it--if need be. She's on call tonite and will have to go if called out. Her lil s10 won't make it so's the old chev comes in handy now. Fueled it up with propane this mornin with 112 gallons onboard. I'm somewhat concerned about the old folks, sick and otherwise, that will be snowed in this evenin. Think'n about them bein hungry, cold and stranded. If the power goes out [very llikely] most will not have heat or water. I know it's impossible to worry about'm all but still I am concerned. All this nasty weather brings to mind the springtime and summer that's half a year away yet. Warm spring evenings after a rough winter-windows opened lettin the fresh evening air filter throughout the house, the chirp of crickets, frogs croak'n, night birds chirpp'n quietly while roostin and the occasional cry of the whipporwill callin it's mate. We don't have to worry about the heat not coming on and water lines freezin up. Iced Tea is especially good on evenings like these. Skeeters are all asleep yet but not to worry--they WILL be out in force in a few more days. Winter's coldest blast didn't kill'm all off. Time to put up the old Carharts fer another year---well maybe! In Illinois you just don't know for sure until about the first of July!!! Evenings are consumed by settin on the front porch play'n or listn'n to home grown music. The T.V. is quiet--no bad news here. The songs always include Gospel and lots of'm. Albert E. Brumley is the favorite along with some newer artists too. Ira Stamphill is considered one of the best too. I can remember those long ago evenings and am saddened at times, that we just don't do'm anymore--at least like we used to. I suppose I'm in my second childhood or maybe just tryin to escape this old worlds' troubles. At any rate--I still llike reminisin about those fun times. Lookin forward to another spring and summer with restless anticipation. Ya'll take it easy today and if'n it's snowin where you are--how about old neighbors? Do you have any and are they ok? Please check on'm. hoot gibson. Matt. 24:44

No old neighbors to watch, but a family up the hill that is trying to heal up from having their daughter raped and abducted on her way home from her evening job last week, by two of her co-workers. The police caught up with them in Missouri, so the two guys that did the deed didn't get to kill her like they wanted. Yes, she's alive and home and OK....or as ok as you can be after a time like that....but this is in the country, not the evil intercity. Please help us pray for her. I too long for simpler, sweeter times. Lord Jesus, come quickly. Maybe the snow can give them a few more days to be quiet together. And Hoot...I wanna go camping.

Leann! It's so disturbing to hear about things happenin to people like your neighbor. This is a wicked old world and seems to be getting worse every day. I'll not preach but it's been prophsied in the Word about such things. satan came to kill steal and destroy. I'd say he's successful at his job. Jesus also said to "pray one for another". This young lady most assuredly needs our prayers.

I had to go "retrieve" lil dumplin up at the highway. She couldn't get home in her little s10 2 wheel pull. In the back of her truck, inside the topper is all our campin gear. Tent, air mattress's, chairs, stove and all the cookin stuff needed. Why, that woman even has our walkin sticks in there. It's especially hard to keep her "held down" in the winter time. She's really chompin at the bit to go campin again too! Don't sound too bad does it?

My kerosene lamps are just waitin, the genset is ready to go. We're havin freezin rain right now. Probably will get to "wind up" that Onan 3kw, propane burner before morning.

Everybody be extremely careful while out and about in this snow/ice. Lotsa broken hips, legs and such are suffered each year by elderly people in this nasty weather. Be careful! Matt. 24:44

Hoot, when you get to be our age we are the old folks to be checked on. lol. Well at least in my neighborhood.

About that rape, I think castration is in order, and since I've owned cattle and done it, I'd like to volunteer for the distasteful task. However, rather than using a scalpel I'd prefer to choose a different instrument. Think maybe I'd prefer to use a double barreled shotgun, make it a 10 gauge, right between the legs. Doubt they'd forget a lesson like that and would probably remember it as long as their victim does. My thoughts will be with her, and her family, and her friends, for it will touch them too. So sad what mankind does to each other.

Hoot, I always enjoy your posts but sometimes I just don't have time to write and tell you!

I'm sorry about your neighbor and the rape! Time is one of the best things to heal a situation like that but I know she had to be terrified. Things like that can either make a person stronger and better or break their spirit.

It is extremely cold here in north 'bama but we didn't get any snow or ice here. The tarp on the side of my rabbit barn almost blew away in the high winds last night so I was out there working in all the mess. But I think I have the problem fixed now.

I am at least getting to stay in my home office today and work on some of the articles I need to be writing. In the morning I have to be at a county commission meeting early so I need to get all the writing done that I can today. The political mess we've had on the national level is kind of like some of the local political mess we've had here...and I've been the one writing the articles pointing it out so it has been very tense at times around here...(that's putting it lightly!!!)

Again, I always enjoy your posts...suzy

Hoot...sounds like I'd get along with your wife just fine!!!! I called the Mom of the girl last night, and she said that the young lady was getting along pretty well, so far. As for the castration, the thought has it's charms, huh? I do know that there have been several death threats against the scum who did the deed; not a right reaction, I know, but certainly understandable.

We are snowed in...one of the perks of working for a school is that when the roads are REALLY rotten, you get to stay home. Hubby works for a contractor that picks up mail at various post offices, so he didn't have that luxtury. He took our eldest son along with him for company, since he's out of school today....a good way to get in some "Daddy time."

Continuing on----I'm a "go getter" now. Took Lil Dumplin to her truck this morning for work and then met'r outside our house to help carry grub in. I guess that qualifies me for a "go getter" don't it? Had to buy some stove pipe for my wood furnace in the shop. It's just too danged cold to work out there without heat. Hours spent settin and thinkin, [I do a LOT of settin and thinkin] I've decided I don't like bein "financially challanged" [as the yuppies say]so figgered it's up to me to change that situation. Whilst outside awhile ago lookin at some stuff heard a bunch of geese fly'n over. Big herd of'm and all of their ole mouths were open hollerin. Kinda reminded me of the politikens and all their tawkin lately. "Sound of cymbles --- signifing nothin" or something like that. Snow melted and then refroze into a glaze of ice on our country roads. Very slick and dangerous. Yeah, I was out runnin around checkin on things and even went over to ole jeeps house to pick up some things. Saw a bunch of tracks across our farm where a big herd of deer had crossed. Wish they'd taste like beef! Oh, BTW, for those who were inquiring where we live [for the work day next summer]--it's 100 miles straight east of st. louis, mo on us50. We have some land staked out that we're wantin to buy for the ministry. It lays alongside the highway and is flat and level. Good access for a ministry. We're not takin donations of money and hopefully won't have to. Well, better get to doin something afore I go to sleep at the puter. Be cool dudes and dudetts- -or warm, whichever the case may be. old hoot gibson. Luke 6:31-----!
