What of THis Child ( Christmas poem)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
What of This ChildWhat of this child born long ago
To Bethlehem in a valley low
where a star shown brightly all around
To illuminate the little town
shining on a lowly stable
where all who came would be able
To see their savior born that day
Laying in a manger filled with hay
His mother smiles through joyful tears
At the precious life she holds so dear
She wonders in amazement all the while
That God should bless her with this child
As the pain of His birth grows ever dim
She draws Him close and cradles Him
And lays the babe upon her breast
The weary infants head to rest
she reflects on her life in child like wonder
The miracles of God she starts to ponder
Such fragile little newborn hands
God's own child, in the form of man
His was no ordinary birth
But proof of what a soul is worth
He was a gift from God above
To show us all how much we're loved
He gave to us His only Son
To make amends for what we've done
The gift of prophecy fulfilled
Of peace on earth,to men good will

Sweet poem....I think we miss out on the wonder of Christmas as adults. Hubby teaches a Sunday school class for two and three year olds, and the lesson two weeks ago was about Jesus being born (they take the story apart in little bites, so the toddlers understand it better). One of the two years olds opened his eyes wide in disbelief as Hubby explained that Jesus was born in a stable, which is like a barn. Little one exclaimed, "Jesus was born in a BARN??????" The child was shocked, as we should be! Ah, the fresh eyes of the little ones!

Thanks Bonnie, it's lovely, did you write it?

Cindy, Yes. It was the first time I ever really thought about how it must have been for Mary. How she might of felt,or what she must have been thinking? Can you even imagine? WOW!

Thank you again, Bonnie. I just read the other poem you posted -- they are both worth printing off and keeping. It does, as someone else mentioned, refresh the meaning of Christmas. Even though I love Jesus Christ, sometimes the holidays seem to all run together and become more of a burden than a blessing -- your poem helped me.
