ESAI warns of high gas prices, possible curtailmentsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread |
Washington (NGA)--15Dec2000Given a forecast for colder-than-normal weather in key gas heating regions from January through March, Energy Security Analysis Inc. believes that "upward pressure will remain on gas prices." Ed Krapels, ESAI's director of natural gas and power markets, on Friday cited a new three-month forecast by WSI for a cold winter, which he said "will have a huge impact on natural-gas prices." In fact, "whether natural-gas stocks will be adequate to sustain demand through March without interruption is now an open question," Krapels said. He asserted that gas storage could be drawn down as low as 500 to 600 Bcf by the end of January. In the six-year history of the American Gas Assn.'s storage survey, the lowest end-of-season storage level, at the end of March, was 546 Bcf in 1996.
