Contrast reduction in Tech Pan

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I hope to benefit from the experience of the many dedicated Tech Pan users out there. I usually process Tech Pan at 68 degrees for 9 minutes. I would like to reduce contrast about 20%. Is my best course of action to dilute the Tech Pan, reduce temperature or reduce time in the developer. I want to retain its incredible blacks and maintain the range.

Thanks,

Philip Glass

Um, try EI 16 and 6min. in Technidol.

This is just something that you will have to run experiments. Your best bet is less developing time. Technidol is kind of fussy in regards to exposure and processing. It really "snaps" around. Don't screw with relatively important pictures, or else you'll have fodder for playing with Farmer's Reducer. (Yes, I do have fodder for Farmer's Reducer.)

I would take 20% off your developing time. By doing this, your blacks will stay the same but your highlights won't be developed as much. This is called pulling. I wouldn't reduce temps or make your dilutions anything more because, as the other poster states, Technidol is finicky! The most repeatable (for a 1 shot developer is to reduce your time and make that your new "standard time". Cheers
