Canon MV30i miniDV cam. Can the movie be downloaded to PC?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi,

Does anyone here have any experience with a Canon MV30i miniDV handycam? It has analog output as well as a DV port (firewire?) The manual seems to only refer to the use of this DV port for still picture printing and transfer to PC.

Can the video file be tranfered to PC as DV Type 1 or Type 2 AVI throught the DV port, if I were to get a DV/firewire card such as Pyro?

Basically you answered your own question when you said "get a DV/fire wire card such as Pyro". I'm kind of under the impression that every firewire video device has that firewire port for not just still pictures, but video as well.

Now depending on what you want to do with the video once it is on your hard drive is your choice (you haven't made it clear because you haven't mentioned what you are going to do, such as make SVCD, VCD, etc from your video).

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I mainly do VCD and so far what I did was with analog sources. Capture to AVI and encode using Panasonic or TMPEG. Never play with a DV cam before. Just wondering if there are people who actually have use this particular Canon MV30i to save some trouble finding it out. Got to buy it to try it, you know...

Anyway, I will get a copy of the full manual soon and read more of the function.

Meanwhile if anyone who has used this camera for VCD/SVCD making, and know any issue/limitation of it, please let me know. Thanks.
