My niece has be diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. She says the drug she takes is heavy duty. Is their any herbal treatment or diet that can help this disorder? We've talked here about alternative cancer treatments how about alternative treatments for FM? Know of any FM web-sites that are herbal/natural related?

Thanks for your help.

Look in the archives for a thread on Fibromyalgia. It has lots of good information.

The Queen has been dealing w/ fibro for 5 years. Just recently she has begun a new treatment which seems to be really helping. Her Medical Doctor thinks she's nuts. Who cares, she's showing definate signs of life absent for a while. I'll have her tell you about it. John

Yup, I have fibro too. Yucky disease but there are alot of helps out there. My first and most important suggestion is to ask if your neice has a personal relationship with Jesus? He knows how hard this is and wants to be a friend and savior to her. Second, sounds like she's already got this-a supportive and informed family/support. My dear hubby is a nurse so he sees alot of fibro junk and is well educated Re:fibro. The best part of him though is his support and understanding. He helps me on bad days(kids do too) and rejoices with me on good days. Right now I am on a very inexpensive and wonderful treatment-Duratuss! It's just old fashioned cough med. I read a book called The Fibromyalgia Pain Relief Handbook. It claimed that 90% of the people who try it get 100% relief!! I have been on it for a couple of months now and feel "normal" again! I can't tell if any aches and pains are left over symptoms or just getting older. I also got good relief from eating mostly raw foods. I didn't stay on it as I got burned out on grazing but had good results while I did. Lost alot of ton-age too! Tell your neice to pray her heart out and He'll hear and guide her steps. Thanks for loving her.Q

While reading about low-carb diets, and the Paleo diet (no grains) I noticed that people were claiming to have gotten relief from fibromyalgia through these diets. One possibility is that it's another symptom caused by the eating of grains. (Among many.) You could do a web search on both diets and see what you come up with. Hope you find something that helps.

I have many of the same symptoms of fibermyalgia but mine are caused by my severe and chronic allergies....so I wonder if the two conditions are related....watching my diet is one of the few ways I can control my allergies....but that doesn't help with the mold spores, etc.

I have the terrible achy bones and other problems at times and in the past when allergies were at their worst there were times I was completely dehabiitated. Now I try to use natural rememdies and weaned myself off the steroids three years ago.

I just got my latest copy of "Herbs for Health" magazine in the mail yesterday and it has an article on Fibromyalgia. They suggest rubbing St John's wort oil over inflammed areas, and relaxing herbs such as chamomile, catnip, skullcap, valerian, passionflower, or kava taken as tincture, tea or pills. They also mention that one study found low levels of magnesium in the tissues of patients with FM, so they recommend supplimenting with 300 - 1,000 mg per day of magnesium malate, magnesium aspartate, or magnesium glycinate.

My youngest sister has FM, and she finds that chiropractic and massage treatments help. Sherri in IN

I'm sorry to hear that she has FM. I've been a sufferer ffor about six years. At first the medical profession tried to give me every medicine known to man which I quickly rejected. ( not one to take any type of foriegn chemical) What has helped me tremendously is a high protien diet with lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Always do some sort of exercise, even on the bad days if it's just walking from the mailbox to the house. State of mind is very important and thistle teas help. hope this helps a little. she'll be in my prayers.

My wife suffers from FMS and has been officially diagnsed with it for the last 3 years, though the dr says she's probably had it since she was a child looking at her medical history. anyway, she started one of the "Herbalife" diet plans 6 or 8 weeks ago - DRAMATIC improvement in her well being within the first 2 weeks!

There's 2 types of supplements, and I forget right now which one SHOULDN'T be taken by people with FMS. We've been buying it from Stacy Spratt @ hairisstacy@excite.com (she's a hair dresser as well). She can answer your questions better than I can - tell her Eric sent ya'!

All I can say for sure is that it's worth the $$ spent on the product as far as I'm concerned.

Suzy-I'm the same as you,and all my symptons are better when my allergies are better controlled.I can give you some info on avoiding "moldy" foods if you like. This is my worst problem and avoidance helps me the most. This list is long and depressing,so beware. I gave all this info to another fibro sufferer who had a bunch of the same symptoms as me.

Takes a bout a year or two to see an appreciable difference,in me anyway. It's a slow heal of the immune system.

I notice Annie in ohio had alot of the same,in other posts. And Sondra. If you've been fibro diagnosed, also check allergies, and food allergies in particular, for possible underlying cause.

I'd really encourage your niece to see a naturopathic doctor ND if at all possible. I was sick with FM for about 5 years- 2 of them bedridden with painful joints and muscles. I was on a merry go round of drugs from my MD and specialist who were treating the symptoms. The problem is each drug caused more symptoms(side effects) which required more drugs, and on and on. The difference with an ND versus an MD is that they treat root causes, not symptoms. For me the root cause was candida, which cripples the immune system, which leads to all the symptoms. The strategy for candida is to starve them (no sugars fruit juice, milk, or refined carbs), kill them with natural substances like tanalbit, pau d'arco, capricin, garlic, and drugs like nystatin and diflucan, and replace them with acidophilus and other probiotics. The trouble is you can get really sick from killing them off too fast (die off) if you're not careful. An ND's guidance really helps. Don't get me wrong, I love my MD. He is a kind, caring man who has seen me through many illnesses. This is just an area that he was not trained in. Sorry this is so long. I get kind of zealous about this subject. I don't want to see anyone go through it. Hope this helps. I have lots more info about candida if anyone needs it.
