Solar Prism Greenhouse

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Has anyone ever bought or used a Solar Prism Greenhouse (brand name) - all one piece construction. Refracts light inside, screens out UV, never needs heat except on very cold winter nights. Seems a little expensive but guaranteed for 14 years and needs little maintenance. I'm thinking of buying one but would like some advice first. Thanks Linda

Are these the all in one piece molded fiberglass? If so, find out what U.V. protection is used to reduce the fiberglass degradation from the sun.Last we checked on this product made locally is that it was using some coating that would have to be replenished often. The school got one and it's already looking bad after abt. 5 years. If the U.V. problem has been resolved, then it would be a possibility.

The big problem with some materials in U.V. degradation reducing light transmission. Fiberglass is one.Find out if the 14 years covers U.V. degradation. When we checked,it did not.

We went with the corrugated panels from Farm Wholesale Hope this link works. My first try at posting one here.

The company gave me a warrenty in writing against U.V. degradation. It is formulated into the product. So far we are pleased with the product. Lower heat buildup in summer with the double walled structure,as well, which is just as much a problem as heating. It looks like plastic cardboard.Good company to deal with. They'll send a free sample for you to see.

The UV is not a cover - it is formulated inside the greenhouse material so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you for trying to post the link and at least posting the website. I had been looking for a source for corrugated panels to make my own greenhouse with, and the company seemed to fit the bill.

Well I ordered the greenhouse last Friday, to be delivered sometime in January. I'm sorting my seed and taking stock of my supplies. I'm excited to get started on spring early. I've always fretted over the weather before, but hopefully I won't have to wait for warm days to garden now. Wish me luck.
