I need help with a pressure cooker

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I bought this big pot that looked like my pressure cooker, but its different, the top thingy that you put on it doesn't jiggle, it just makes noise like steam coming from it. Does anyone know what type of pressure cooker it is? Its a presto. It doesn't jiggle so I don't know when to start timing. Any help would be appreciated. This is my latest buy at the auction house.

Could it be missing the weight for the top? Or perhaps the gauge is missing?

I have a cooker that doesn't jiggle. It's a foreign made thing, I've had it for years. If you listen carefully you can hear it steam after awhile, that's when I turn it down a little. Haven't had a problem with it.

Thanks Judi and Cindy for your answers. Well, I made soup beans last night and it works, I just never had a pressure cooker not jiggle the thing on top. I stood beside it the whole time thinking it would explode...Thanks again.

I've misplaced the address, but if you do a web search for pressure cookers or pressure canners, you will find that Presto has a website, with all kinds of info. They have parts going back many years, and I "rebuilt" our 35 year old canner for a couple of bucks. GL!
