Looking for Cheese press, cider press, and info. there of!

We are looking to get a cheese press that has the arm for hanging weights. If anyone knows of someone who has one for sale, or different sources, please let me know. If any of you have used this type of press, could you tell me the pros and cons of it? Also, we are looking for an affordable cider press. So far, what we have seen in the catalogues are several hundred dollars and more, beyone our means. Anyone know of maybe small builders of them, or used ones no longer needed for sals, but still in good shape? Thank you for all your help! Fran

Countryside magazine had a really cool Steve engineered cider press in one of the summer 2000 issues.

Regarding the cheesepress: There are free plans for a simple lever press on the Artisan_Cheesemakers List's webpage at http://members.nbci.com/cheesemaker/Cheesemakers-L.htm . It's made out of a two by four, and when you add a $30 food grade plastic cheese mold like NECs sell, you're in business for very little money.

Lever presses have it all over screw presses since you don't have to keep coming back tightening down the pressure as the whey is expelled---it does it by itself! OTOH, screw presses need constant readjusting throughout the pressing period, or soon you won't be pressing anything at all.

Cheap, simple, elegant and runs by itself... I like lever presses.

Thanks, everyone! We are favoring the leaver press for our cheese, too, but with so many projects not yet done, we are hoping to find affordable presses (especially the cider press) already made. We have a little holiday money, just not a whole lot... We have only located a few sources so far. I thought someone might know of some cottage industry type sources?? Fran
