red frizzle bantam cochins

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'm thinking about getting some red frizzles and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this breed. My questions would be: what is there mothering ability like, can they take care of themselves etc. Thank you.

Naomi, I have had several different colors of Cochin banties and once even had some standard Cochins. They are the sweetest chicken I have ever raised, I have a pair of red cochins in the chicken house right now. My "little red hen" is the best setter and the best "mama hen" of all my chickens. They can take hot or cold weather, it was 110 degrees this August, and 4 degrees yesterday morning. They can feed themselves if allowed to free range. The only problem I ever have is predators, a cochin is defenseless and kind of slow, so are caught easily. the Frizzles are just how the feathers grow on your Cochins- to-be and they are cool looking little banties too. Hope this helped, I am a goat fanatic, but have raised chickens most of my life.
