I spent a quiet evening pretty much ignoring the whole thing, what did you do for New Year's Eve?

That's about what I did! Just rented some movies and switched over to Dick Clark at about ten till midnight. Wild party girl, I'm not.

I spent most of the awake part of the day switching back and forth between the Godfather Saga on cable and the pro football wildcard games. "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse" (click)"Denver has the ball on the Baltimore 20" (click) "Tattaglia's a pimp. He never could have outfought Sonny." (click) "Jamal Lewis has the ball on the Denver 17 yard line" (click)"A man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man"(click) "McNabb complete to Mitchell for a 13 yard gain"(click)"On the souls of my grandchildren, I will not be the one to break the peace we have made here today." Ah, good stuff.

Then we had dinner with our friends and their three teenage sons, one of whom is an incredible painter. We also met our friends' new friends, an actor and his artist wife. We left early so we could be home before midnight. At home we opened a bottle of champagne and watched Dick Clark. I don't care what anyone says, the man looks good. Happy 2001, Kymm and everyone.

Yesterday I read Secra-Terri's quote that whatever you're doing at The Moment, you'll do a lot of it in the coming year. So I thought back, what was I doing? Oh yes, I was sitting around in the living room, tired, but yammering away with a friend, while Golden Boy slouched lower and lower on the couch, too polite to say "I'm going to bed, goodbye."

I am sure that prediction will come true for me.

Boston has something called First Night, with hundreds of concerts and activities and stuff all over the city from noon-midnight on New Year's Eve. I took a candlelight tour of the Harrison Gray Otis House, which I'd always wanted to do, and checked out a very weird silent film/live music program, which was not what I expected.

For the eighth year running, my friends Rob and Steve hosted a fabulous sit-down dinner for our circle of friends, and it remains one of the most special nights of the year as a result. We were nine around the table, which was groaning with lobster bisque, turkey, endive casserole, stuffing, potatoes, and, oh, many other things. David and Karl each brought the best champagne in the world, Veuve Clicquot Demi-Sec, and we all become quite merry. Indeed, I was laughing so hard at one point that Karl threw a napkin over my head the way President McKinley used to do to his wife Ida when she'd have epileptic seizures during State dinners.

We took our champagne into the study to watch the ball drop on TV (I would -much- prefer to have everyone sing "Auld Lang Syne," but I'm always outvoted) and then reseated ourselves around the table to consume and elaborate and fabulously presented trifle.

I was home by 1:30 AM after one of the best, friendliest New Year's Eves I've had the good fortune to see.

May the Deity of Your Choice grant you as much in the New Year!

/Robert

I had a very quiet evening as well... reading aloud from Paradise Lost with my theater prof. We didn't even watch the ball drop. Very strange to me, but it's a New Year's I won't forget... parties after parties sort of blend into one another.

Just babysat for my nephews and hung out at a friend's house for a short while.

Wild party girl I am not.

I watched the beautiful young Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "On the Waterfront" and then watched the horrifying film "The Cell." Actually, I just watched 15 minutes of it--it's just too scary for me.

Happy New Year! ö¿ö

Yes, wild party girl, I am not... either.

I spent it at home, with my nephew and my boyfriend- on the phone.

First i went to my friends bar around 7 then i left it at 10 and went to a big party where all my friends that i havent seen for 2-3 years were at. I stayed there and got absolutely trashed until 5 or 6am, cant remember exactly. I know it was shortly before the sun came up. Most of the night i couldnt tell you about for i cannot remember it. Just bits and pieces. I do remember the ball dropping and kissing some girl but thats about it. I went home and slept off a major hangover swearing id never do something like that again, but im probably lying to myself. I mean im still in college cmon'. Party animal, i am

Listened to the final installment of "Idiot's Delight" on WNEW, and had a somewhat deranged conversation on a MUD I frequent. That was about it, really.

Since NYE is the last night at Swing Out Northwest dance camp, I was dancing! We had a good band, George Gee and his Jump, Jive and Wailers.

After the countdown and balloon drop, everyone started stomping on the balloons, which surprised me -- I think it would be more fun to kick them around while dancing. (all the dancing mentioned was lindy hop, the original swing dance from the thirties.)

we were cheering and clapping as the band began to play again. I was really pleased when my cute friend Devin grabbed me and started dancing with me. Then we joined a big circle dance, everyone boogy- ing, doing the hokey pokey, etc. I thanked him -- it was such a wild dance that I'm sure we'll have good luck all year.
