Fair use for educational/research purposes onlyMilk prices zapped by electricity costs California dairy farmers want an emergency increase in milk prices to help them pay skyrocketing energy bills.
Western United Dairymen today petitioned the California Department of Food and Agriculture to raise milk prices about two cents a gallon.
Right now, the state does not factor in utility costs when it sets farm milk prices. Dairymen cannot pass along cost increases for electricity, natural gas and diesel fuel.
California produces more milk than any other state.
