why is poe considered a romantic?

Poe is considered a romantic author because he wrote with the traditional romatic traits. Especially the inclusion of mystery and the supernatural. This was a direct response to the classic style that the writers were breaking away from. In classic peices authors avoided anything unexplainable or strange. Their content is really quite dry. Another trait of his that makes him romantic is that he includes a lot of macabre. His stories are very vivid and dark. He experiments with style, another trait of romanicism
