ming-na only?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I just noticed today that in the beginning credits. When Deb appears on the screen her real name "ming-na" is shown only. Why don't they show her last name too? As in "Ming-Na Wen". Does she go by Ming-na? sorta like a Janet or Madonna thing?

She removed the Wen a couple of years back. Now she's just Ming Na, the actress formerly known as Ming Na Wen.

I think I read in an article somewhere that she dropped the Wen when she got married. Something about not changing last name because she was an actress and it was easier just to drop her last name.

Wen is her father's last name and she never did take on her stepfather's last name. She dropped her last name when her stepfather died, and she realized her last name was no longer relevent in her personal life and therefore did not belong in her professional life neither.

She also spoke once in an interview how they were taking a family photo and on one side there were all the Yees (her family, stepdad's last name) and on the other were all the Zees (her husband's family) and she was the only Wen.

So, her stepfather is a Yee, her husband is Zee, and she is Wen - what about her mother/syblings etc? (i mean as in last names with the yees and zees).

Her mother and siblings took on/have her stepfather's last name.
