The Winner Is.....'ER'!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Congratulations, "ER" for winning the 2001 People's Choice Award for television drama. Laura Innes accepted the award and she looked spectacular. With Erik Palladino, Micheal Michelle, Ming Na, Goran Visnjic, Paul McCrane and numerous writers, producers, etc. were by her side. The cast was front and center in seating. Good-job and well-done, 'ER'! The people truely do love ya!

Yippee! I was afraid they wouldn't get it since ER isn't the "trendy new show", but the people have spoken! Anyone know why AE and AK weren't there? I personally didn't think Laura Innes looked good-what was up with her hair? And (don't hit me!) I've gotta say, Michael Michele looked beautiful-I like her hair. Also liked Erik P.'s suit-doesn't that seem like what Malucci would have worn?!

-- Rubi (mommyof2@sigecom.net), January 07, 2001.

Wooohoooo! Go ER! The critics don't seem to like it anymore, but all us lowly commoners do. Go Ed to!!!

-- Mallory (mallory_1523@yahoo.com), January 07, 2001.

Yay! Was that Noah behind Erik Palladino? Where was everyone? Half the cast didn't show up. Everyone looked great except for Laura? What was up with the hair? I missed Paul McCranes presenting an award. What did he say?

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), January 07, 2001.

Why is anyone surprised? This was a popularity contest only. No critics, no peers. So ER was the top in the ratings, which we knew. Ergo, the awar

hey, why wasn't the PCA'S in australia? It wasn't in the tv guide or on tv at 8:30 -11:00. Is it on tonight?

-- er_aussie (er_aussie@hotmail.com), January 07, 2001.

No, Noah wasn't here. Neither were Alex, Anthony, Eriq, and Maura. Aside from the Emmys, half the cast doesn't bother showing up to these things anymore. Altho I was thrilled to see her, I was suprised Ming-Na was there. My friend commented that she must've been on her cellphone checking up on her baby every 10 minutes. :-)

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), January 07, 2001.

Way to go ER! Speaking of Ming-Na, does anyone know when she'll be back on the show?

-- Andie (non@no.com), January 08, 2001.

Another thing that needs mentioning is that this award is the 8th in a row for ER. It's won the People's Choice Awards for Best Drama every year it's been on the air, plus for best new drama. That's unprecedented for any other drama. Go ER!!!!

-- Carin (cdenisehaze@usa.net), January 08, 2001.

Okay. I thought it might have been Noah. Oh well. I was surprised Ming-Na was there too JLS! At least something good happened today. Totally OT- The Tennesse Titans lost today thanks to somebody missing a few field goals, and I was feeling a little down until ER won.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), January 08, 2001.

Ming-Na returns to work this month. The cast has been on a little hiatus for the holidays. Shooting resumes around the 11th. So if Ming-Na will be back with the rest of the cast, we should expect her in episode 14.

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), January 08, 2001.

What's also cool is that the clip of The West Wing that they showed was from the episode that Laura Innes directed.

-- Zelda (DaxSJ@aol.com), January 08, 2001.

Slightly off topic: If anyone's interested in voting, the ballot for the TV Guide Awards is in this weeks issue. Numerous nominations for ER.

-- Maureen (shepcaff@ix.netcom.com), January 08, 2001.

Which eppy of West Wing did Laura Innes direct? (haven't seen her name in the credits yet)

-- er_aussie (er_aussie@hotmail.com), January 08, 2001.

I usually lurk but wanted to comment on this. It's very obvious why the big names (AE, NW, AK, EL) didn't show up. Because they're snobs! Yes, I find it interesting that they would go to an awards show where they would lose to West Wing because we the people didn't get to vote and yet when we do vote for them and more than likely they'll win they don't go. What stuck up snobs! They obviously don't care about us the fans! They would have no show if it wasn't for us!

-- Michelle (michelle@mail.com), January 08, 2001.

Thanks JLS! I have to agree with Michelle a little. Do they not realize that without us they would be out of a job? I was disappointed not to see my favorite cast members. To me it was like they (the ones who didn't show up) were saying "We don't care about the fans and what they think. We only care what the people in the show buisness thinks". That is who votes for them in the Emmys, Golden Globes, and so on. That did seem kind of snobby to me also.

-- Andie (non@no.com), January 08, 2001.

Come on, be reasonable, havent you ever been invited to an event and go "Oh God, no thanks I'm tired I rather stay with my family or partner?" The person who invites you wants to see you there, but that means getting all dressed up, seeing that somebody stays with the kids and going there, smiling and talking with a bunch of people (many of whom you honestly couldnt care about), etc. To us it all sounds glamorous, but picture yourselves in a similar situation and youŽll understand it...Now wouldnt you just rather stay home with your family and watch it on TV on pijamas or less?

-- jules (jsheldon@operamail.com), January 08, 2001.

Well actually, Anthony Edwards and Alex Kingston were both at the People Choice Awards last year so it was good enough for them then. They've probably all attended this thing at some point or another but the one year they don't go people get all judgemental. Perhaps they had something else going on in their lives or with their families. They are actors but they do have lives too. They don't exist simply for our entertainment. It is more than a little unfair to call someone you don't know a snob just because they don't show up to one stupid awards show.

-- Amelia D. (dadkjd@motion.net), January 08, 2001.

Yeah really. I have had enough complaining from people lately. When the Titans lost yeaterday alot of people, including me, were bashing Al Del Greco everywhere for missing the 3 fiels goals. They still are today. Now I'm hearing people complain about this and calling them snobs for them not showing up.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), January 08, 2001.

I pressed the Submit button to quick. The point is complaining isn't going to help any. There's always the next awards show, game, ect...

Where can i see a photo of it? (to decide wheter Laura Innes looks stunning in a positive or in a negative way.....:-))

May I add, that since AK is pregnant maybe she isnt in the mood to fighting against a dress and all the mess? A lot of women dont mind, I think that Ming-Na went out a lot, but really can you blame AK? And AE has a very young baby at home (not as much as Ming-Na, I know). But, AE and LaSalle have had their share with awards for years, while these would be MingNa and EP and MM "first years". I guess its like when you go to parties with former friends from school, the first years you go but in the following its sort of boring, you have more responsabilities, at least IMO.

-- (jsheldon@operamail.com), January 08, 2001.

I hate it when people just run off with their mouths yet not knowing all the facts. And please don't call them snobs!!! You guys don't even know why they weren't there. As for Noah Wyle being absent, he was in NY. He appeared on The Today Show this morning and talked about raising awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Here's the link to the video clip:

-- Abigail (abbyqueen@aol.com), January 08, 2001.

I missed Noah on Today?!!? Ugh!!! Thanks Abigail...I will check out that clip. BTW, there are lots of reasons for people to miss the awards show. I know when I was pregnant I wouldn't want to be finding a gown to wear to something like that (so far it appears tha AK may not be handling extra weight as well as Ming Na did). Plus, if they have had time off for the holidays and are still not back to production then many of them may have taken much needed family vacation time with their families. Who knows?

I apologize for making that remark. I'm just pissed off about something else right now and I guess I just took it out on them. Sorry. I tried the link but for some reason it won't play on my computer. So could someone please tell me and others what he said? Thanks in advance.

-- Andie (non@no.com), January 08, 2001.

JLS- Thanks for posting the picture links!

-- Maureen (shepcaff@ix.netcom.com), January 08, 2001.

I had my fingers crossed the whole time. I'm gald they won and I'm glad they didn't wait too long for that particular award. I only watched to see if they would win. I have to agree that I can understand why AK didn't show. But on another thought I was always under the impression that each show was allotted a certain amount of tickets.. If you think about it that place was packed and with all of the ensemble shows there would have been no way they could've fit everyone in there. Just a thought.

-- james (eorejim@aol.com), January 08, 2001.

I personally wouldn't consider Anthony, Noah, Maura, Eriq, and Alex SNOBS. They have other lives outside of the show and everyone has to respect that. Usually, too, it is rare to see the *entire* cast of an esemble present for an awards show. I think that "ER" did a fine job and Laura, Ming-Na, Paul, Goran, Erik, and Michael were wonderful representatives of the show. I am sure that the other were simply busy and had other things going on at the time. It is hard for them to plan their daily routine around every little thing. I was not surprised Tony was not there. More than likely, he was spending that *much needed* quality time with his family. The show is a great concern to him and I know he was proud that they won. By him not showing up, it was not a down-fall saying that he did not appreciate the fans and their support. Noah, as we already know, was in New York...there is his excuse. :) Erik LaSalle attends some of the awards banquet, although he is never one to bank on showing up. He is more than likely an extremely busy man, also. As for Maura, I am sure she too was busy. Probably spending some *much needed* quality time with her hubby. It has to be tough not seeing each other very often and every little moment is taken. Now, Alex, we have to give her the much needed support. The woman is six months (nearly seven months) pregnant. It has to be difficult to get all glammed up for an event such as last nights. The special fitting dress, shoes that won't squeeze her feet to death, etc., etc., etc. She needs her rest. More than likely, she was soaking her feet, eating Ben and Jerry's, with her TV tuned into the show. For that matter, I am sure that all of the no-show cast watched it (at least 'ER's bit). So, do not be so hasty to say what snobs they are for attending. Acting is a 24/7 job and any free time at all is sincerely deserved. They have done a wonderful job this season and all of the actors/actresses should be given a hand.

-- Abby (PrettyLittleDaisy@hotmail.com), January 08, 2001.

I am so glad er won. I think I would have kicked my tv in if they hadn't. Actually just kidding, I'd never kick in my tv, I worship my tv. I thought I saw Noah lurking behind, but I caught a few minutes of him on Today. It was a very interesting piece and he looked so dapper in his suit. He sounded so authoratative, I could believe he was a real doctor. I guess that's why he wasn't at the awards. I'm sure the rest of the cast was busy too or wanted to spend downtime with their families, which is ok. Ming-na looked great as did everyone else (didn't care for Erik's hair, is it goind blond again or was that the color on my tv, and Laura's hair was too spiky) other than that great to see half the cast accepting the award. Way to go.

-- Laura (laurelc@wincom.net), January 08, 2001.

I have tried alot to see the clip but it's not working on my computer. I have also apologized for calling them snobs. Will someone PLEASE tell me and others who may not or can't see it what Noah said? Thanks!

-- Andie (non@no.com), January 08, 2001.

So either no one knows what he said or some of you are mad at me for calling some of them snobs and you won't tell me what Noah said. I said I was sorry for that. You know being called a snob is not the worst thing in the world. There are worst things then being called a snob you know. BTW, I'm not tyring to be mean here. I just want to know what he said and no one is saying anything.

-- Andie (non@no.com), January 09, 2001.

Yeah, that's right, everyone's ganging up on you. By the way, I wasn't trying to be mean or anything.

-- Cecelia (evilstoat@hotmail.com), January 09, 2001.

If I could I'd tell you Andie but the speakers on my computer are dead. Lately when I use them there's alot of staic and now there's a whistling noise so I need to buy new speakers someday. So sorry I can't help you there.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), January 09, 2001.

I was...hehehe...no seriously. Being called snob is not the worst thing in the world Andy, but then again, I dont think we were using you as a pinata. You are not Cleo after all =). We just say "put yourself in their fancy designer shoes for a moment and youŽll see they are fashionable but uncomfortable too". Now, does anybody know what Noah said and be so kind to share it? Lets move along.

-- (jsheldon@operamail.com), January 09, 2001.

Okay, in response to what Noah had to say on the Today show. :) He did talk nothing of the show at all. "ER" was not mentioned, except for when Matt Lauer referred to Noah as playing the role of Dr. John Carter on the show. Noah was only on the show in reference to the work he is doing for groups and organizations for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He was there along with a woman (her name has escaped me), who suffered from PTSD. It was informing and I thought it was really sincere for Noah to reach out to others. By using his celebrity status, he is helping to make this condition more aware by others. He talked about the work he did for another program Doctors of The World (or something to that affect) and the work he did while visitng overseas. Noah did quite a bit of talking, although the interview focused mainly on the female guest. I was able to access the site yesterday and view it from my computer. :) Noah did look nice in a suit and tie, very appropriate.

No problem, Andie. :)

-- Abby (PrettyLittleDaisy@hotmail.com), January 09, 2001.

I can't believe I forgot to say this yesterday but I'm glad Noah is invovled in this charity. Good going Noah and keep on fighting the good fight.

-- Andie (non@no.com), January 10, 2001.

For what it's worth, not that it hasn't been discussed to death, but Goran Visjnic was interviewed on Conan Obrien after the People's Choice Awards and mentioned the other "guys" on the cast were busy; specifically mentioning Alex (Kingston)--sorry if all the names are misspelled.

-- why? (tkjjd@yahoo.com), January 10, 2001.

Did Noah say whether he got involved with PTSD because of the attack on Carter, or vice versa, or independently? Reminds me that Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, has been involved with Amnesty International for a long time, and (if I recall correctly) conferred with them when he filmed an episode in which Picard was captured and tortured.

-- Driad (Driad@mailcity.com), January 10, 2001.

Just for the sake of accuracy, I thought I'd mention that I noticed while staying up way too late the other night that I did indeed misspell one of the names, as mentioned two posts above. "Conan Obrien" should be spelled "Craig Kilborne". Minor mistake.

-- why? (tkjjd@yahoo.com), January 24, 2001.

In regard to People's Choice Awards, Cammie asked "Was that Noah Wylie behide Erik Palladino? Where was everyone? Half the cast didn't show up".

The man behind Erik Palladino was the primary executive producer Jack Orman. Many cast members did not show up because they were on location in Chicago and the People's Choice Awards were held in Los Angeles.
