My advice to you is to check EBAY... you can find them at www.ebay.com... I purchesed almost everything in my birthing kit as well as my library from there and nothing was over 15.00... my books all cost around 2.00.
You can even do a search for doula on there and find stuff.
Good luck! Amanda

Half.com is another great source for books at a tremendous discount.
If you would like to just read a book or examine it first then most libraries should have an inter-library loan program where you can order the book you want and check it out. Sometimes a book is not what you really want once you get it. That can also help bridge the gap while trying to find it at a good price. You can at least read the book, then if you choose to have it in your personal collection then you can begin looking for it at a great price.

I have several copies of a video called, "The Doula" produced by Victoria Birth Services. It shows an interview with a doula and then follows her through the hospital labour and delivery of a baby. It's $14.00 US if you would like a copy. I think it's a good video, but the hospital birth is pretty grim. (The mom has a heplock.)

Jenny, To keep cost down and to avoid piles of books and video's try the public library, I rent the books and video's when ever I want or need to. I am currently doing so for the required reading list. Lotsa Luck..Daphnie

Hi...I have created a huge doula library of pregnancy, breastfeeding, childbirth, and childcare books by going to flea markets, garage sales, swap meets, and local library sales. I have over 100 books that I got for less than $40 TOTAL. People will sell you books for 50 cents or a quarter... It's GREAT!
