Does anyone out there know how they used to worm in the days before chemical wormers?

Look in the archives under diatamaceous earth - what is it and DE Info-1. These threads were very informative. They were dated December 22, 2000 and December 23,2000 respectivly.

Tiffany, primarily garlic and wormwood essential oil, also known as absinthe, a high toxic and slightly hallucinogenic plant that is most likely the true cause of the Impressionist period in French art work, and the writings of F.Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway!

Annie, wormwood essential oil is not absinthe-it was one of the ingredients used in a concotion along with other herbs to make a liqueur called absinthe, which is no longer legal in the United States because of the high levels of thujone in the wormwood oil.Just thought you might like to know!

Re: wormwood, usually the plant is used as a vermifuge (worm killer). Some people still swear by it although I've personally never used it as such. It tastes extremely bitter. Wormwood essential oil is too toxic for internal use as it's highly concentrated and contains irritating and toxic chemical constitutents. Garlic is a great wormer but you'd have to use a lot, and I believe it would cause gastric irritation in high doses.

There are several homeopathic remedies which are supposed to be vermifuges (what a great word!), notably Cina. Also, i believe I read in a foxfire book that if you take eggshells and toast them brown and then crush them to a powder and consume that, that it cuts up the worms. Does it actually work? Don't know.
