I don't know how to extract it, but I do know it is marketed under the name AmeriClear or something like that and used to clear the paraffin out of tissue sections before mounting them on slides. A similar product - DeSolve It - is used for dissolving resinous and greasy compounds like sticker residue and grease pencil markings.

Are you looking for cleaning products like Citra-Solv, or are you looking for essential oil, such as for perfumery and cooking? Essential oil is distilled as far as I know, I was watching a demonstration by an old fashioned 'apothecary' with his water cooled equipment and he sold orange oil, so I am assuming that is how he produced that as well as his flower oils. Unless you're going in big time for distilling essential oils, you might be out less money to just buy it prepared.

Well, this probably isn't what you're looking for but I'll tell you anyway!LOL!I don't know how to get just the oil out but we boil big pots of any kind of citrus peels to release the oils and let the water cool and pour it over our dogs in warm weather as a rinse after bathing.Fleas hate citrus anything.Just one use if you want to save and use peels.

The answers above about distilling were correct. I did this once in an organic chemistry class. You need quite a set up to do it. Depending on what your purpose is you could get some oil from heating the peels in a little water and straining it. Then you could leave it unopened and let the water evaporate. If you want real pure orange oil, better to just buy it I think.

Really it's endless... my primary use is in making aromatherapy candles, lip balms & salves. Along the way I have found many other uses, like adding it to handmade soaps and unscented dish soap for a refreshing scent and great degreaser, also mixing it with baking soda and sprinkling it on carpet and rugs. The oil can also be added to chicken, fish, & tofu marinades, scones, frostings, cakes, muffins etc...for a powerful orange kick. Here are just a few of the therapeutic aspects of the essential oil.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil: It is antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, digestive and sedative. Prolonged use and high dosage may irritate sensitive skin and there’s a chance of phototoxicity on skin exposed to the sun. Relieves gloomy thoughts and depression. Dispels stress. Revives one when bored. Calms the stomach in nervous states, assists with diarrhea and constipation. May encourage appetite; don’t use if dieting. Seems to have good effect on colds and bronchitis. Very good for painful and sore muscles. May relax insomnia brought on by anxiety. Has a possibility of bringing down high level of cholesterols in the blood. This company is really cheap (high quality) and does not require a min.purchase.

I hope this will help.
