Ole Jeep [Wisdom from hoot]

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Ole Jeep is next older brother of mine. Several have asked about'm over the past year or so. Some even think he's a figment of my imagination but "it jest ain't so"! He's for real and isjust as I've written about'm. Some differences between him and I are-- I'm the "refined one"! He lives on his own farm along with several animals which include a Mule--Jake, potbellied pig named "Pickel", "Griz" his Airdale dog, a cat--Sherman, and his wife's dog "mandy". Different animals come and go as they appear upon his doorstep and he lets'm stay--usually! He's a fiddle maker/repairer and player. A builder of fine furniture, [starting coffin build'n] blackpowder rifles/handguns and even the stocks which he saws with his Woodmizer bandmill. Cuts his own firewood [with my help sometimes] lives close to his rais'n and enjoys life as much as I do. Drinks Iced Tea by the GALLONS! Married to the same woman for close to 40 years and the pappy of 4 kids--all grown. He's not fancy by any means but if he tells ya something you can bank on it! The funny thing about the Gibson family is that almost everything we own has a nickname. We even name our vehicles! His llitle truck is named "nikki nissan". My little Chev S10 is also named "Nicki" after a previous owner. Guns, tractors, tillers, sawmills, mowers, musical instruments etc --all have a name! No wonder our kids don't know their real names! His kids nicknames: Ole Sis, doodle, chukky and allthread. Jeep got his name from a banjer pik'r whut used to be on t.v. locally about 45 years ago. His wife's nick--Elmer! Don't really know why anymore. I've slept since she got that name. Of course all the Gibson family is Southern Baptists and don't "look upon the wine while it's red". We'll help those we can and reject the counterfeits and thieves that try to "move in" on us. Conservative farm folks that enjoy life to it's fullest and do it in a Godly way! Well, now you know a little about Ole Jeep and his'n family and his "named" equipment/dogs,cats and mule. Other than all this "name'n" of possessions--he's purty well normal, I guess. Well, as normal as any other Gibson family member!!! Matt. 24:44

Hoot:

I figured you were given the nickname after the old western actor Hoot Gibson (unless he took yours). Kinda figured Jeep was named after the Army Jeep. My understanding of that is it was designated GP - for general purpose - and Jeep does seem to be a GP guy.

Still saving the story about you and Jeep.

Hoot didn't tell you about our youngest brother's nickname. Frank was the only one of us 8 born in the hospital. Before he came home with Mom, we were listening to Grand Ole Opry and someone told a joke about a new baby named "Wokus" because "he's woke us every night since he's been here". Poor Frank immediately became Wokus before we even saw him! Until he died at age 24, most of our relatives didn't know his real name. His closest friend had the last name of Stine. One day as they were together, Mom looked out the window and said "Well, here comes Frank 'n' Stine!"
