Any comments on the Hexanon 28mm f1.8 UC?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Konica 35mm SLRs : One Thread

I was wondering if anyone has ever used this lens here in the group, or had any options about it. Reason I am asking is I just bought a Konica T3 outfit that has one included in it and it is the AE version.

Thanks,

Mike.

28mm f/1.8 rep

Hi Mike,

I have never used a 28mm f/1.8 Hexanon but it had as good a rep as any Hexanon. It has floating elements for close focus correction and, as you probably know by now, it focuses to a comparatively close 7" from the film plane for semi-macro capability. Let us know how yours performs. I'd like to get one myself. At a reasonable, if not cheap, price of course. The 28 f/3.5 Hexanon performs admirably at its optimum aperature of f/8... As they say f/8 an be there... with your Konicas of course! I continue to use my Konicas professionally, even more so than my modest Canon EOS system.

Best Regards,

I was Very Very lucky to find one.

I got VERY lucky when I read an ad in the Buy & Sell recently at listed a T3 collection as having a 2.8 1.8 lens so I called and bought it right away. The last one I saw was on eBay, and it ended at $501.77 USD. Not bad for a lens made in the early 80's.

"Modern Photography said this was one of the sharpest, best constructed lenses it had ever tested. It is of a floating element design and is optimized for both infinity, scenic use and also for close-up, extreme depth of field use. Even when these were in production, they were selling for $350 top $400 through the discounters. This was back when the yen wasnt so strong, too! I am not sure if I can afford to keep this lens or not because of its value. I have never owned such an expensive lens. It is even more valuable than my Nikon AF Tokina ATX 80-200f2.8 lens. Any suggestions?

I will definately have to try this lens out when I get it in the mail. Have to see if it is as outstanding as they say it is.

Yeah... Keep it, you will eventually find another one that you can sell for profit if you want. They're not THAT rare or expensive... I saw one at an Ottawa store a couple of years ago they were asking $250ish CDN. More than I care to pay... then or now.
