Celebrating Our Anniversaryand the Mongolian BBQ(Holidays)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Since our 14th wedding anniversary is the 31st, I thought I'd share with you what we do. Actually, it's how we get the money. We don't do much celebrating of anything, which is another thread, however we do celebrate our anniversary. We save our change for the whole year, well most of it. About this part of January, I count it and roll it, and cash it in. This is especially good this year, since things are tight. We'll go to a Christian BOOKstore and out to eat-we've cut way back on going out to eat. If there's a movie we're interested in and not crowded(perfume) we may see it. Otherwise we may go to a hardware/farm store and look around. Won't be gone too long, that's how we are.

Our new favorite restaurant is the Bon Mongolian BBQ. If you've never been to one, you don't know what you're missing. You can get regular Chinese food from an almost typical buffet or you can go through the a different line. There you put all the veggies, noodles, skinny meat and choice of nine different sauces in a bowl. You hand it to the chef and watch him cook it for a couple minutes on a really big round bbq thing. Since you put your own sauces, which includes garlic and hot peppers, on it you get it just like you want it. My allergic friend and I neither one get headaches or other allergic reactions from eating there. Weekday lunch with a tall glass of ice tea and refills is only a little over $5. and you can go back for more as often as you like. Evenings, weekends and holidays are a little more, and you get a bigger choice. The only downfall I see, is they don't have mushroom as a choice in the bbq line for lunch. The one we go to is in Columbus In.

Congrats on the Anniversary. Teri my husband and i do that very same thing! Only our book store is Borders. We have coffee, read books and listen to local performer's. Usually blues or folk music. We don't go often, but it's a nice trip from time to time.

teri, I don't know for sure if it's a chain or not, I hope so. We don't go much but when we do, it'd be nice to have one wherever we go.

Funny you should mention a Mongolian BBQ. My parents used to put them on and when I lived in Japan I used to hit those restaraunts alot. They're really easy to put on and can be alot of fun whenever you have a reason for a get together. The spices are pretty generic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, rice wine (sake), sugar water, garlic, giner, sesame oil, vegetable oil, onion juice and red pepper and msg or salt. When I was a kid, my dad would have guests each bring something to contribute and everyone would spend time chopping, cutting and slicing. Then we'd all get our bowls fill them up with some of everything and Dad would man the wok.

Pretty much you only need 3 kinds of paper thin sliced raw meat (though if you can get some venison it adds alot), some chinese cabbage, bean sprouts, and onion, sliced carrots and green pepper to make these. I'm so glad you mentioned it...it is a wonderful treat.
