Need source for Jerusalem Artichokes and Mangel Beets

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I need a source for Mangel Beets and Jerusalem Artichokes, Abundant Life used to carry Mangel Beets, but I could not find them in their 2001 catalogue. Many thanks for your answer. Ronya Hammonds

R.H. Shumway's has the Mangel Beets for sure and I know I ordered my Jerusalem Artichokes from them also, I just can't find it in the catalog at this moment. www.rhshumway.com

Jung's has mangel beet seeds, Mammoth Red, and I think they sell Jerusalem Artichokes.

We got our J. Artichoke's from Johnnny's Selected Seeds last year and they were very successful. Shumway's also carries J. Artichokes and I expect they are less expensive than Johnny's but I can't vouch for their quality. Frankly though, these nifty tubers grow like weeds so I would guess they are fine!

We have ordered Mangel seeds from Shumways but Jungs also carries them. Shumway's offers several varieties and will send instructions for home sugar production if you specify. Kim

Many grocery stores around here carry Jerusalem Artichokes. I think you can just put them in the ground and they'll grow. Shumway's does have several types of mangel and sugar beets.

I've gotten some Jerusalem artichokes from Homestead Herbs (a small business run by a homesteading family). Write for their catalog since they don't have a phone (Homestead Herbs, Turner Rd. Oxford NY 13830). Also Henry Field's or Gurney's catalogs carry Jersusalem Artichokes. I put some in 3 years ago and they keep spreading and becoming more beautiful!

I have purchased Mangels thru Gurneys in the past. Try gurneys.com

Hi Ronya. I've got lots of Jerusalem Artichokes, & would be glad to send you some when the ground thaws here (that's likely to be late March (maybe) or April. Or, better yet, will trade some tubers for a recipe that uses them. Sandy

Can mangel beets be hilled up like potatoes?
