Question about best brand of new tires for SUV [farm equipment?]

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'd like to get your opinions on what you consider the best brand of tires for a '96 4-door Ford Explorer. The old ones were from a tire company called "Commanche" and they weren't very good.

The ones Im thinking of buying now are "Yokohama Geolander A/T Plus", I hadnt even thought of them before I started to do a little bit of research and then I found all kinds of good words about them. The clincher was the customer survey results from www.tirerack.com they were ranked number 1.

At any rate I was just wondering what your favorite brand of tire was for light trucks/SUVs.

Most off-road people and "Jeepers" consider BF Goodrich to be the best off-road tires. No other brand comes close. You can get them with an all terrain tread or a mud tread, depending on your needs.

Anyone can put an aggressive tread on a tire and give you good traction. Safety and quality workmanship are much more important attributes. Tire making should be left to the professionals. Look for these words on your tires: MADE IN JAPAN. I prefer Bridgestone Dueler A/T's. Yokohama is also a good choice.

I bought a new Mitsubshi Montero in 1986, it had Yokohama tires on it at the time. I got 80,000 miles out of them and they were still in good shape but the treads were worn down, I replace them with some cheap Western Auto tires and put the Yokohama's on my farm wagons.

Last year a put new Yokohma tire on my 97 F-250 4x4 which I bought from COSTCO.

It depends on what you use your Explorer for?Is it mainly used for on or off-road use?

Our favorite brand of tire, and we have tried them all, is Yokohama's, we run long haul oversize, overweight freight as owner- operator truckers, and NEED reliable tires, and they are them.
