NBC's spoiler for episode #15 "GOLDEN HOUR"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Gosh, NBC has this one out already. I haven't even posted mine yet. Guess there's no point now. So here's NBC's spoiler for episode #15, "GOLDEN HOUR" - which is also the 150th episode.

ER

"Golden Hour"

DEADLY TRAIN CRASH PUTS DOCTORS AT RISK IN THE FIELD DURING 'ER'S' 150TH EPISODE -- In the classic drama's 150th episode, a multi-car train accident scrambles the ER and Drs. Kovac (Goran Visnjic), Carter (Noah Wyle) and Corday (Alex Kingston) are overwhelmed by the carnage at the site as they work to save an impaled mother, her young son and a trapped firefighter -- until the pregnant Corday begins to suffer painful contractions. Back at County, Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) tries to salvage a victim with a shredded aorta and even helps Carter with a tricky amputation over the phone, all of which leaves an observing med school applicant wide-eyed. Meanwhile, the bloody mayhem prompts Kovac to recall the harrowing loss of his own family and he confronts his torment with the terminally ill Bishop Stewart (Oscar-nominated guest star James Cromwell, "Babe"). Away from the hospital, Dr. Greene (Anthony Edwards) is summoned to the emergency from his humiliating competency testing.

Thanks JLS! Finally Luka is going to get some help it looks like. How far is Elizabeth? I hope her unborn baby will be okay. Looks like a great episode!

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), January 26, 2001.

BTW, isn't this the episode where Carter meets the 19 year old? I thought you or someone said it was around this episode.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), January 27, 2001.

WOW! That sound pretty intense. BTW, where does NBC post those spoilers? I know the NBC Village address but it is two episodes behind that one. Do you mind sharing?

-- N Wilson (nwilson@wko.com), January 27, 2001.

Thanks for the info. What is the date this show will be on?

-- deanna (vizquelx13@aol.com), January 27, 2001.

Ooh, Kovac and Carter are going to the crash. I hope there aren't any criminals or addicts involved in the crash who are unworthy of their efforts. If everyone involved meets their high standard of behavior, maybe we'll see some good medical treatment in that episode.

-- Gia (gcwright@hotmail.com), January 27, 2001.

Why is Elizabeth going? Isn't there some sought of 'rule' or 'law' against preganat women doing paramedic work or 'ride-alongs'? I don't think we've ever seen Kerry along one and i would asume her leg would have something to do with it. But still, why not Peter? He could swap that aorta surgery with Elizabeth.

-- Ritaann (er_aussie@hotmail.com), January 28, 2001.

Ooh, yeah, there are some interactions I can't wait for here. First, Benton and Carter will finally get some interaction it seems; hopefully they'll exchange some words after he talks him through the procedure. This is the "one year stabbing anniversary"...will anything be mentioned here? Will Benton stop to ask how Carter's been doing? Also, for some reason I like watching Carter and Corday interact too...it seems Carter and Kovac will have to work together to help her out. Finally, Carter gets to go out and do the heroic work...I guess he's taking over for Mark. And finally, Luka figures out he needs help! I can't believe *he* goes to the bishop himself. WOnder what part Abby will play in this.

re: Cammie's question...is it for sure that Carter will meet someone this season? (small SPOILER) I've heard it will be a fling (because it's only a guest star) with a VERY young med student. Does anyone hope that this fling will end with some realization between Carter and Abby or Carter and Deb? (although maybe after Luka's talk with the bishop he will become nice Luka instead of mean/nasty Luka, and his relationship w/ Abby will improve).

The female Carter gets involved with next is not a medical student. Carter believes she is pediatric intern( ie first year resident). It turns out she is not a pediatric intern. I think on the newsgroup JLS who always has reliable spoilers said she is doing an internship in the pediatric department. I assume that means she is a college student as was mentioned when info was first leaked a month or so ago.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), January 28, 2001.

Yes, Carter is supposed to meet his new *fling* in this episode. Taken from what epnebelle has to say at the alt.tv.er forums, she is a Pedes Intern and her name is Lea. Now, I was hoping it would be a bit more of a permanent basis or something like that. The idea of a 19 year-old still strikes me the wrong way, it might work out for the best, though. She is a college intern, however, not a medical intern. More than likely, it is still up in the air as to if she will be a steady supporting character or not.

-- Abby (PrettyLittleDaisy@hotmail.com), January 28, 2001.

Wow, this sounds really good! Does anyone know if Elizabeth will have a miscarriage? I sure she doesn't!

-- ~*Marianne*~ (Soccergirl019@aol.com), January 28, 2001.

It sounded like a bad idea at first, but Carter and a 19-year-old might work out okay. I know he's supposed to be thirtyish now, but he's kind of immature, more like a man who is 20-22 at most. Plus, he never has been able to keep anything going for very long with the older women he's made passes at. He and a girl in her late teens may find more common ground.

-- Pat (dappled@earthlink.net), January 28, 2001.

Carter is a lot more mature than a 20-22 year old man. I think Carter has matured quite a lot in six seasons. I've enjoyed watching himm grow and mature as doctor/person over the year. He may have his faults like every other character on ER. However, he does certainly does not act like a twenty year old. He acts older than that like he should. Carter has had some of the longest relationships on ER. Most of th guys/gals on ER have had just as much trouble or more in having long term relationships. All of the characters have had plenty of short term relationships among them.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), January 28, 2001.

I've never thought about it that way before, Pat, but I think you're right. Carter acts more like a spoiled college age guy than someone who's pushing 30. They haven't done a very good job with his maturation after season four. Maybe they think if they make him too mature, he wouldn't have much point on the show.

-- James (jhudson@concentric.net), January 28, 2001.

We must have been watching different versions of later seasons then. We have seen a much more competent, mature DR the last few seasons than when season four began. We have seen a guy who takes his job and responsilities for the most part very seriously. While Carter has a few bumps and few immature moments like all of the characters on the show. We have seen Carter progress and mature along the way. Carter did act like a guy in his early/mid twenties the first few seasons. However, he know longer does and has not acted that way for a long time. As with most characters and most adults in real life, he has made mistakes and acted a bit immature at times. However, that is not how he normally acts. While Carter has had a few moments of smugness throughout the years, his typical behavior is far from a spoiled, rich college boy.

-- brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), January 28, 2001.

Maybe they think if they make him too mature, he wouldn't have much point on the show.

Maybe you are right, that they want to give him more room to mature. It does seem like they keep him at a standstill. Of all the characters, he's the one I wish someone would grab and shake and say, "Grow up!" I don't know whether the writing team is trying to make a point about him being spoiled from his pampered upbringing and stilll being dependent on "Gamma" or what it is. I do agree with those who wish they'd write him like a grown man and not a whiny teenager. Especially with Noah looking so much older compared to when the show began.

-- Clarissa (stgaudens@juno.com), January 29, 2001.

If any character needs to grow up , it would be Dave. Carter is more mature than Dave is. Explain to me how Mark in the first nine months after his beating was very mature. I think in many ways Mark acted far more immature than Carter did after his knifing in which he sustained far more serious injuries and someone died as a result of the same attacker. I thought Mark acted a bit immature after Susan left. Doug was very immature his first several years on ER. I thought DOug making fun of Kerry was immature . I thought Susan acted immature in her season two bickering with Kerry. Even Benton has acted kinda immature /inept in how he has handled some of his relationships. I personally think that Romano acts immature at times.MY point is that all of the characters have acted immature long after they have left their teens. I guess season three/four Mark was acting more like a college student than a man in his thirties. Doug in the first two/half seasons , by some of your standards must have been acting like an immature college boy than a man in his mid thirties. I certainly think there could be as much reason to tell these men at that stage in their lives to grow up as there has been with Carter.

While, I have seen a few moments with Carter the past few years where Carter could have handled things differently or he had brief moments of smugness or immaturity, it certainly does not define who Carter is or how he as acted most of the time. I've personally seen Carter mature and grow over the years despite these glitches in his typical behavior. I have seen a man who takes is job/responsibilities as a Dr. very seriously. He has shown that he does not balk at responsibilities or that he wants to shy away from work. He has shown the capicity to learn and grow from stuff. The vast majority of time he treats his patients well and does not act irresponsible. He has shown that he can handle chaotic situtions such as in "Exodus" . Even this season in " Greatest of GIft" a very experienced Nurse, Haleh, was praising Carter for taking charge when an inept, temporary Attending could not. If Carter needs to grow up like a few of you think, do you think we would have seen him help CHen with her son's birth and the complications afterwards without one complaint despite having no sleep and having to work later that day? If Carter was so immature , would he have been supportive of Abby and willing to listen to her when her mother was there?

Despite, not having a relationship longer than most of a year, he has shown growth and maturity. If Carter was acting like a college student and needed to grow up , Carter would have bolted when he found out ELaine had breast cancer. Instead while not handling a very difficult situation perfectly, he did show the willingness to be there for her. He sure acted like he would have gladly continued to have a relationship with her despite the masectomy. While I thought the whole Carter/Lucy stuff was very forced and they were trying to force us to like Lucy via Carter and create so called tension which failed, if Carter was immature , he would have been like Dale and not cared that she was a medical student. He would not have puit a stop to the events in Storm I. I honestly think we could tell all the characters at one point or another to growup. IN fact I think most adults could be told that at certain moments in their life. However, I just don't think that you could classify most of the characters on ER including Carter as immature.

Title: Isn't the term "golden hour" used for the first hour after a heart attack or stroke, during which treatment is most likely to be effective?

Wonder if/how they will get "150" into this episode. In the 100th ep, "Good Luck, Ruth Johnson," they celebrated the hospital's 100th anniversary and honored a woman who had been born at the hospital 100 years ago. Even the continuity-impaired writers couldn't make the 150th ep the 150th anniversary of the hospital (we hope!). What happened in Chicago in 1851 that could be commemmorated? Maybe there will be be various small mentions like "blood pressure 150 over 100" or 150 people hurt in the train accident.

-- Driad (driad@mailcity.com), January 29, 2001.

Sounds like an interesting episode. No mention of either Abby or Deb I guess they will have back burner roles in this episode. I love that Carter and Benton will be interacting finally....I just hope this isn't the only interaction of the season.

-- Emma (webbef@hotmail.com), January 29, 2001.

Wow, this epi sound really good! I can't wait to see the Luka storyline. About Carter, I have to say I agree with Brenda. I don't find him as immature as a 20-22 yr old at all! Dave is by far the most immature character on the show...Carter seems like an old man in comparison. I have even felt a couple of times this season that he seems older than his years. Oh well, to each his own I guess. I have to say all these huge tragedies are getting a little old (fire in a sweatshop, train crashes, explosions, etc). I mean, how often do things like that happen in real life? But, it makes for good entertainment I guess. I am looking forward to the Carter/Benton interaction. Of course, Elizabeth has to have some major crisis, but I don't think she will lose the baby. I am still looking most forward to Luka in this one. I love James Crowmwell and think he did a great job in the last epi!

-- amanda (amanda.rehm@home.com), January 29, 2001.

Emma sed: No mention of either Abby or Deb I guess they will have back burner roles in this episode.

Abby and Deb deal with Elizabeth when she's brought back from the accident site.

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), January 29, 2001.

JLS, if you don't mind telling, is there any Kerry/Kim stuff in "Golden Hour"?

-- Austin (thirdrailrider@aol.com), January 29, 2001.

Would a doctor who is pregnant even be allowed to work in a majot disaster like this that Elizabeth will be doing in this episode?

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), January 29, 2001.

I agree w/ Brenda, I do not see Carter as spoiled...maybe a little naive to the world since he's had it so good, and maybe he didn't want to admit his faults when he became addicted to drugs, but wouldn't we all? I think most wouldn't want to admit these things, but he's done his best to get past them. We've all seen Carter let his pride get the better of him, but he always comes up ok in the end. The fact that carter is having yet another fling gives me hope that maybe during May or next year we'll see him begin a serious progression into a relationship w/, as I said above, Deb or Abby. (since the problem is with guest stars, they don't usually stick around)

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), January 29, 2001.

The "Golden Hour" refers to the hour immediately following *any* trauma (heart attack, stroke, GSW, collapsed lung) when treatment is most effective.

-- S. Trelles (trelles@ix.netcom.com), January 29, 2001.

I was thinking about this fling, since Carter has quite a lot of "baggage" this year, we'll hear him maybe have to talk about it a bit...I'm sure it will come up to this girl that he was addicted to perscription drugs, and that will lead to explaining why...this could be something to look forward to for those who think Carter's emotional recovery has not been touched upon enough (i.e.--> me)

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), January 29, 2001.

Deb in two episodes back to back. I guess miracles do happen. I'm so glad that Ming Na is getting more air-time, and I hope Feb. sweeps is beginning of a recovery arc for her. As far as the Carter thing goes....I'm just gonna a wait and see. If the casting news is right according to the newsgroup it could be interesting.

-- Emma (webbef@hotmail.com), January 29, 2001.

I think that Carter has a bit of growing up to do, still, yet he is not immature or totally childish. Each of the characters hints at being a tad on the childish side, to a degree. He doesn't necessarily use his position money wise to dominate his reign, so he is not entirely spoiled. We do not see him sporting a new Corvette or dangling a Rolex from his wrist. He is not spoiled in terms of material items, yet he could be spoiled in the tendency of emotional feelings. From what we know, Carter's parents were never ones to spend a great deal of time with John as a young boy. He grew up in the close confines of Gamma and his grandfather (although his grandfather seems the least caring of the couple). I think that John has always had someone there for him and in a sense, this is what he needs now. It is not going on a *spoiled* basis, everyone needs someone.

John may be presented to us as a *lucky* addict. He did seem to get quality rehab treatment, he used prescribed drugs, and he was more or less, given the more leniant terms of forgiveness. He has went through a tremendous amount in the past year or so, and he has grown to a slight degree.

I do not view his new relationship with a possible 19 year-old as testing Carter's maturity, more of a test of the lucky ladies maturity. I do not think Carter would be persistant and go out with anyone who was on the childish and immature side, at least not jumping that boundary. At this point, I think he is aware that he will need a steady strong-hold as a partner and someone that will look out for him, almost a security blanket.

This girl, *Lea*, is just a sophomore in college. Her pedes internship is that on the basis of college, not medical, terms. So, more or less, it is not entirely a steady posistion. The spot of Lea may not be as long-term as some of us first expected it would be. She may be a character that will come on for a reindition of *Let's Get Carter Together Again*, then jump out of the scene due to schooling and such. If she does stay, it will not be a permanent spot. More or less, a supporting character (if you will). Almost like a Jackie, Jen, Rachel, type gal.

I do think this is what Carter needs, now. He does need someone that he can trust, talk to, and lease his mind of sudden constant worries. He needs a friend, someone that he is able to discuss his feelings to. Currently, Carter is not boasting too many reliable friends at this point in time, which I do hope will change. We will, of course, have to use the ever faithful *wait and see* method.

As for the episode, it looks like it will be an excellent one. Very action packed, yet subdued to a bit. I have a very small feeling that we will not see any Kim or Kerry here. I am almost positive that their fling is cut off in the episode prior to this one, "A Walk In The Woods", which airs the 15th of February. I, too, am suprised that they are allowing Elizabeth to go on-scene for a trauma. It is extremely shocking that they would put her in this type of a scenerio. However, she may simply be there on a consultation purpose and will vise at no actual rescuing and life-threatening attempts- such as the one she posed in "Exodus". I am extremely glad that we will get a chance to hear Luka's side of his tremendous tale of the events that took place in Croatia. This is possibly just what the man needs, actually, it is what the man needs. I believe that the entire crew could do good from some decent venting time, at this point.

Since it will be presented as the 150th episode, it is only a speculation as to how TPTB attempt to add this in. I'm sure that they will be able to fit it in numerous ways. We will simply have to wait and see, once more. :)

-- Abby (PrettyLittleDaisy@hotmail.com), January 29, 2001.

"I, too, am suprised that they are allowing Elizabeth to go on-scene for a trauma."

IIRC, there is a Federal law that prohibits discriminating against a woman in her job assignments based upon pregnancy, so if Elizabeth wants to go, the hospital must permit her to do so.

-- Beth (bsmith@internet-95.com), January 29, 2001.

Lea's name has been changed to Rena.

Kerry and Kim's relationship does not cut off in "A Walk In The Woods".

Elizabeth goes to the scene because they required a surgeon.

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), January 29, 2001.

JLS, or anyone, do we know who is playing Rena??

-- amanda (amanda.rehm@home.com), January 30, 2001.

Lourdes Benedicto

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), January 30, 2001.

JLS, thanks for your quick responses. I have an additional question if you don't mind. You said:

"Kerry and Kim's relationship does not cut off in 'A Walk In The Woods'."

Does it cut off in 'Golden Hour'?

-- Spring (springuyen@aol.com), January 30, 2001.

No.

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), January 30, 2001.

For more details on Carter's latest love interest (Rena), see today's posting on "ER Daily":

So will this "observing, wide-eyed med school applicant" be Rena? For those who read ER Daily (SPOILER), I think it will be hysterical to see when Carter realizes this girl is much younger than he thought. And she's also not blond! Will this show take place w/ a Valentine's theme?

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), January 30, 2001.

No and no.

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), January 30, 2001.

Thanks, Jules for that tip. Wow...she's gorgeous! And definitely NOT blonde! I'm looking forward to this storyline. This whole epi sounds really good!

-- amanda (amanda.rehm@home.com), January 30, 2001.

Thanks, JLS, for all the Kerry/Kim info. Hope all these questions aren't getting on your nerves, but, do you know whether there's a K?K cliffhanger in "Golden Hour"? And which sweeps eps is E. Mitchell appearing i

-- spencer (burmashave2001@aol.com), January 30, 2001.

Hey JSL! I was just wondering in "The Golden Hour" does Elizabeth go into labor? DOes she deliver or have a miscarrage? What about Mark? Is he there when this is happening? Thanks a bunch! If you don't mind sharing....where do you get your info?
