I am a student at Drexel University in Philadelphia, and I will be shooting a major project on Canon's XL1. I was just wondering what I can do and buy that would make the image as close to film as possible. I have a budget of about 500 dollars for camera accessories. Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.

Lense filters like Tiffens ProMist series go a long way to creating that mythical 'film-look'.

You want to think about sound as well though, and get a proper shotgun mic. What's the point in having a great looking film if the dialogue is muddy?

I've spent far more on accessories for my XL1 than I did the camera itself.
