Stockman's Journal

Hi, My husband and I have just looked through The Stockman's Journal. We LOVED it and all the great information it has.....buuuuutttt, a lot of the information is based on modern, and in our opionions, very WRONG agriculture land use and methods. My question is; does anyone know of a book like Stockman's Journal only geared more towards organic and environmentally suitable farming techniques? We love how it covered all aspects of ag from nuts to bolts. Any help finding a similar book would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brenda

Not a book, but you might enjoy ACRES USA, a monthly paper about organic farming and people who are serious farmers and really make it work. info@acresusa.com

Check used book stores for agriculture books from about the 50s. After introduction of mechanization (affordable tractors), but before the era of factory farms. Also see if your local library can get you any of the books by Louis Bromfield. He was a very famous agricultural writer of his period. A periodical is The Stockman Grass Farmer (www.stockmangrassfarmer.com). No necessarily organic, but on raising livestock as natural as possible.

Brenda, try Organic Gardening, Mother Earth,USA ACRES. Storey Books has quite a lot of books and 40 pages pamplets. I just ordered 40 and received them last friday. We have a Small Family Farm in Upstate NY. All our produce is Organic. I've been growing Organic all my life. All our chickens are free ranging along with our ducks. Make sure you try Johnny's Seeds. They use Organic methods .Good Luck Mtasheacres@aol.com
