I agree on joels recent article human task switches. But i have to annotate one thing : I'm usually having about 2-4 task in my projects, wich i solve concurrently. When i have to sleep over a problem or have just not enough information to solve it, i let it partly solved on my desk. This has proved for me to be very effective. Task switches aren't as costly as on switching between projects. Now you can find the analogon on your own...
