From the posts a few slots up, you won't be too welcome there. All that aside, it's easiest to narrow down your area of interest, then go there in person, drive the roads, take down numbers, talk to locals (if they will), and generally network with local real estate people. We have moved almost a dozen times over the years, and only twice did the local agent actually show us the property we eventually bought. Every other time, we stumbled on it ourselves, just driving the roads. Time consuming, but rewarding.

When I was a kid there were bumper stickers that read "Welcome to Oregon, now go home". I'm in Central Oregon now, but spent my childhood in the Willamette Valley. We're getting swarmed over here with Californians, which used to make me disgusted, but they are driving the cost of property up so much that we'll make a killing when we leave. Plus, my husband is in construction so without those Californians and their million dollar houses he just might be pumping gass.

OOps! Didn't answer your question, did I? If you are looking in the Central Oregon area, email me and I can give you some real estate sites if you think they might help you find what you're looking for.

I was up there last summer looking at land in the NE part of the state. Some land is cheap, BUT not buildable and it could only be used for pasture. Other land was expensive if it had any buildings on it, but more buildings could probably be added. My understanding is the state DEQ is all powerful when it comes to land use.

Jim, you checked the "I want email response" box, yet your email address fails.

JIm, it depends on what you want. If your looking to start pretty much from scratch, there's some decent land prices in southern Oregon. The problem is that there isn't much in the way of jobs. Also the closer you are to any town the more expensive it gets. My best friend is house hunting in the Willamette valley and the prices there are MUCH higher. If you want info on Southern Oregon e-mail me@ cavemtdexters@cavenet.com (get the idea that we're near the Oregon Caves?

I found this web site and wanted to share it with you smallfarms.orst.edu/crops.htm and hometown.aol.com journeytoforever.org/garden sometimes you have to leave the words off after the slash and then go into the site for what you want. Best wishes in your new place.
