Help! I need information or suggestions on what a wood cookstove is worth. I don't know alot about it (age, ect.) It is a Charter Oak 50 0. In very nice condition. On the front door it has a tempature gauge. The oven size is about 18" width and 20" depth. Has a water tank, 16" deep, and about 6.5" width. The size of the stove is about 40" width and 24" deep. Has 4 burners a shelf (not a warming shelf), just a shelf that holds things. It is white and VERY, VERY HEAVY!! Has some of the utinsels that came with it. Any ideas at all on what this may be worth? Thanks very much!

And I forgot to mention, the lady who owned it said it was used up until the owner died. So must be in good working condition. Thanks!

No clue if this will help you or not, but we bought a Sweetheart Oval three years ago, brand new and paid $4000 for it...same year we sold an enamel PA stove that was missing parts and unusable for $500 from our antique shop. we have seen prices all over the NE for good working wood cook stoves ranging from $100 to $8000....it seems to depend upon what part of the country it is and how common it is in that area to use wood stoves..they were very high as Y2K approached, and now prices have dropped considerably. God bless.

Are you planning to buy the stove or what? I would LOVE to have one but will likely have to settle with having a wood heating stove that will plan to run into our brick chimeny (AFTER we get a chimney liner) this summer.

Our former wood stove had a top you could raise up and you could slow cook beans and stew and stuff on it...

Anyway, if that stove has no major cracks etc and has lots of the original utensals and is still in good working order I bet it's worth between $500 and $1000.

Thanks guys, that gives me some idea of the range! Well, it is one we own. I do NOT want to get rid of it, but may have to....

If I have to, I want to be able to get the most out of it I can. Otherwise, it would not be worth it to me to sale it. Errgh, I really love having it----sigh! Thanks a bunch and please if anyone else has thoughts on the value of it, please let me know! Thanks!

Wendy, there is a used wood cookstove site on the net that may be able to help you get some idea of what your stove is worth. We have one that sounds similar to yours, my husband bought it at an estate auction a few years ago for $200, an antique dealer at the auction told him that in the Boston area it would go for $1500 to $2500, but a neighbor of ours who buys and sells wood stoves said she could get us $500 for it if we wanted to sell it. (Which we don't!)

Thanks Kathleen, I am going to try and do a search for that site! Checked ebay and such and did not find anything. But, then again I have never gone to those sites, so could be something I did not do right. Thanks!

Wendy, We are looking for a woodstove and have found one of the best places is on Ebay. Many times we have seen them being auctioned off for $1.00 without any bids. The reason I assume is that the seller is just trying to get rid of it. They only request that you come and pick it up. Unfortunately, most of the ones we have seen like this were very far from our home, Cali, Oregon, Washington, and Maine are some of the states. I would check for prices on Ebay as a start to find the value of yours. Sincerely, Ernest www.communities.msn.com/livingoffthelandintheozarks
