Hi Joel

I really liked the compensation package at fog creek. It just makes sense.

1.how confident are that its scalable as company grows. how would the management, then, inspire employees, other then playing dirty "Individual Performance bonus" game.

2. Why is this kind of package not truly recognized by software industry yet. any guesses?

Thanks

The programing industry wants you cheap, and it's discovered that it can lure talen with stock options and bonus schemes. Talen eventually discovers that the stock options are magically worth far less than they though (equity manipulations, different classes of stock and so forth), and hat the bonus schemes never actually generate the kind of wealth they are claimed to.

By then, the company has usually had a few years work out of the staff in question, and hoovers up the next bunch to replace anyone that leaves for a better deal.
