There are different types of lava based on their chemical make up and they heat to different temperatures. Basalt lava erupts at temperatures between 1000 and 1200 degrees c. Rhyolitic lavas erupts at temperatures between 800 to 1000 degrees c. Rhyolite has a higher silica content, therefore it has a lower melting point.
