Southern in Tennessee

How involved was Southern in Johnson City Tennessee? Did they have a shop or anything there? Or did the Southern just pass through to other locations?

Thanks in advance, Joley

As far as I know, the Southern had a line (or lines) in or around Johnson City. The ET&WNC interchanged with the SR in Elizabethton, and the ET&WNC had former Southern/CofG locomotives while it was still the ET&WNC. That is as much as I know about the Southern in Johnson City.

I don't know what kind of shops or such facilites they had there, but all the passenger trains stopped there. That would be the Pelican from NY,WAS,Roanoke, Koxville, Chatanooga, BHM, New Orleans. The Birmingahm Speical same as above but terminaitng in BHM. And the Tennessean, same as above except going to Huntsville and Memphis from Chattanooga.
