Our mission group is outfitting a refinished dresser for a mom in need. We need a pattern for cotton or flannel diapers.Does anyone have dimensions and instructions for sewing these? Thanks ahead!

Diane: When I made my own (yes, it was eons ago, when dinosaurs were around!) I just cut the flannel into 27 inch squares and hemmed the edges. Worked fine. If you are looking for the prefitted/shaped ones, I can't help. Nice thing you are doing, by the way! Jan

Hi Diane, I believe in one of the Tightwad Gazette books by Amy Dacyczyn, there are instructions for making pre-folded diapers out of slightly worn diapers. I'm not sure which issue its in (mine are out on loan), but you could most likely find it at your library. Good luck. K

Washable diapers have come along way since the days of the pinking sheared edged diapers I folded, and the "new" prefolded diapers that I used on my son! You now can add velcro edges instead of pins. I know the younger gals will know the web site, or just put a search in to any search engine (I like askjeeves, since he figures out the best what I am trying to find :) but along with feminine napkins their are sites on making your own diapers, even one on nappies from England. my wife made some for my 4th the other diapers were wearing out and then with the last one we used material from surpluss sweatshirtss it has such a soft nap and is a thick clothjust cut below the arms adjust for your babys size.friends give me free cloths when they clean thier closets they must be compulsive buyers tags still on some of them we look through them and sort by size and taste pass some on to other people some of which are very poor even by my standards and some wind up as material for rags and are altered to suit our needs

My fondest memories are of the diapers all hanging on the line. All my boys wore them. At the beginning I bought diapers from the catalog, then I thought that I would try to make them, I used terry cloth and flannel, they worked okay. The last boy I decided that I liked the terry cloth ones the best, so I went to Penny's and bought one of their huge bath sheets. You know, the huge fluffy one. It made about a dz. diapers. I made mine 14 X 16 inches. I still have them, the boys are all out of them and they make great rags, they by far held up better than the fannel ones and they were so easy, I just serged the edges and that was that. I also used diapers covers, and some dandy little clips that I could use plastic pants with. Have fun and hope this helps.

If I was to do it all over again, I'd make'em using a flannel covering over terry cloth (towels). Using the square 'tri-fold' technique. The store bought ones could be significantly more absorbent.
