Can anyone tell me if any of the Piedmont & Northern steel cabooses saw use after the line was acquired by the Seaboard Coast Line, and did any ever recieve SCL numbers or paint? Any help here would be appreciated!!!

Thanks jerry

The only one I am aware of is a steel caboose, No. X23 if memory serves, that was put on display years ago in Greenwood, S. C. - I assume it is still there but am not sure. It was painted in what was supposed to be SCL orange, although when I saw it in the 1970s, it had faded to an awful pale pink. It was lettered in the standard "Seaboard Coast Line" slanted Gothic font across the top, but kept "X23" which would not have been a standard SCL caboose series number - all SCL cab numbers began with zero. For this reason, plus the poor quality of the paint job, I always suspected it was painted solely for display and never used by the SCL in service.
