Alan Thompson

Talk of Thompson being selected for England. Has his form for Celtic been so outstanding and if so, should we be trying to lure him back home.

If nothing else he is left footed and we desperately need the balance.

Looks good in winning team, but opposition hopeless, difficult to judge absolute worth

Would you say the same about Larsson MacB?

No, Larsson is the best player in the UK, a lot better than Di Canio who has similar background. Level headed but so mobile and so skillful, just brilliant.

Larsson was playing for Feyen**rd when I moved over to Holland five years ago. He looked a decent player but certainly not exceptional. When he wanted to leave South Rotterdam (and who can blame him) he was forced to take the club to court , but the level of compensation Celtic had to pay was rather small (around 300 grand if I'm not mistaken). Further north in Heerenveen, however, there was another Scandinavian international showing all the signs of developing into a top class player. Scoring freely out of midfield with the likes of Barcelona and Ajax keen to sign him, he looked a star in the making. When he signed for us I was delighted.

Four years on and Larsson is acclaimed as one of the best footballers in Britain whilst Jon-Dahl Tommason... well even Feyenoord supporters have been recently grumbling about his finishing. Such an inexact science, judging how a player will develop and adapt. There was me wondering how Larrson would cope with the rough and tumble of Scottish football!
