Bobby Convey

Not sure whatever happened to him going to train with NUFC over the winter, but I'd love to know if Bobby is still interested in the kid. He's the 17yr old midfielder(LEFT SIDE!) from DC United. He caused a bit of stir in MLS last season with lots of talent and poise competing with the professionals.

Well today he blew me away. The US played a friendly against Brazil. Convey played about 70min of the match. Against Cafu. And did not look at all out of place. Not afraid to tackle. He went in so hard early inthe first half that he wound up getting a gash on his leg cutting right through his sock. He got treatment and went right back out. He's a tiny lad, probably about the size of LKD, but tough. His youth and inexperience naturally comes through at times, but overall he seems to be a real gem in the making. Bobby needs to see a tape of today's game and then get the kid over for a trial.

The whole game was actually a nice revelation on how far US soccer has come. We lost (2-1), but held up very well until the last 20min or so when Brazil's superior abilities had our guys so worn down they couldn't do much more than grit it out. Which they did admirably well. And this wasn't even our full strength team. Most first choice players were either on their way back to their European teams, or injured(the Mexico game on Weds having quite a casualty list). After WC98, I never thought it would happen, but the US isn't going to be the laughingstock of world footie much longer. :-)

Frankly, I didn't think they were in '98 ciara. Considering their starting point, they've done remarkably well, and as we all know once the US decide they want to achieve something they usually succeed.
