I just saw it in the forecast; 30 inches in some places, a foot in Washington, D.C. Supposed to be the worse since 1966--hope you guys all have your firewood dry and your critters fed!

It's been such a long cold, snowy winter (sounds like a line from a song...), we ran out of wood! For the first time in, well, EVER we had to *gasp* BUY WOOD - Ohhhhh, the shame.... Well. DH is going down to work now (before church) to get the dump truck/plow, and pick up a cord or so of good dry wood - nothin' like them BTU's, 'specially from a couple of woodstoves :-D. We are lucky - the gentleman we "buy" the wood from prefers his payment in the form of homebaked bread, honey and other various homemade goodies. We'll be filling up a 10 gallon waterjug in case we lose power. Other than buying a snow shovel for my 10-year-old, we didn't need to get a thing from the store. Homesteading is a wonderful thing!

The forecast in the Binghamton, NY area is 1-2 feet + !! We're all set, Ed is firing up the John Deere and snowblower, we have wood, I'm picking up an extra 2 gallons of milk- just in case. This storm is supposed to last 2 days...I don't believe I remember a snow storm that has lasted over a day.

The only thing I have to do is fill up tubs with water in case the electicity goes out.

NOOOOOO......please, no more snow, I can't take it anymore!!! We've had over 70 inches so far.....I'm serious, I can't handle any more snow! Somehow I have to get through 2 more winters, then I'm heading south. I bought 5 acres in southern Missouri, and I can't wait to get out of New York!! Maybe this storm will stay close to the coast, and we won't get clobbered here in Binghamton.

I'm as ready as I need to be I think! Usually have enough stored for at least a week if not longer. Actually I think a month wouldn't be any problem. As I'm near the coast in MA, it'll probably be mixed in with rain to a considerable degree so it shouldn't be all that big a deal. Never remember snow for more than a day huh! Well guess you weren't around or in the area for the blizzard of 78! That was some storm let me tell you! But I just sat back and enjoyed the scenery. Couldn't go anywhere anyways as we were under a state of emegency and the national guard was out and all that. Actually I'm not all that fond of snow myself, so one would think I'd rather go south! But I'm heading further north in the future so I guess this'll just be more practice for the north country snow!

And I was just thinking the other day how ugly the landscape was with brown grass, so dreary. I was hoping for warm weather and green grass and leaves, but I guess I will have to take white fluffy snow. Hey, at least the yard won't be dreary! But keep your tv's up loud so you won't hear me cussing about about to shovel all that @#&% snow! We heat with natural gas so don't have to worry about the weather. Don't have to worry about the gas bill either since we have gas wells on our property and get free gas. We always have extra water around since electricity could be a problem. (I must look into buying a natural gas generator!) Good luck everyone. I'm ready, so let the storm begin!

I love the snow, remember well the blizzard of 1993!!! You have not had snow till you have a winter of 256 inches, yes, that is not a missprint, 256 inches!!! We have a pto powered generator, gas log heat as backup heat, four improved springs for water, raise our own hay, have 6 months of food in the pantry (at least), two tanks of fuel (diesel and gas), so I'd say we are well set. Used to bad weather, it doesn't faze me anymore since I'm prepared for it. Boy, I love the snow, even if it means the daffodil sprouts have to hide under a white blanket for awhile!!!

We spent the day cutting up wood (were running low), did a food shopping for milk, bread, and some treats, filed the birdfeeders (our feathered friends need some fuel in this weather, too!), got the Coleman lamp ready in case of power outage. It's snowing heavily now and there are a few inches on the ground already. We here we may get up to 30".

Here in central Maine we're always prepared for the worst. We are close to the ocean (Penobscot Bay area) so we wont be getting much from this storm. Our forecasters say about 4". Southern Me. will get a foot or so. I really love the four seasons here and yes I do like snow, altho I can honestly say that I'm looking forward to spring!! We heat totally with wood and have a generator for power outages. Have plenty of stored water, the freezer is full and my goats have lots of hay and grain. Bring on the storm....WE'RE READY!

Well, I think I'm ready! The ducks and geese are snug in their barns with lots of food and heated buckets of water. The birdfeeders are full, and there's corn and peanuts out for the squirrels and bluejays. I hung a fresh suet cake for the woodpeckers.

I'm northwest of Albany, NY, and we could get two feet of new snow by Tuesday. At least it will cover up that darned ice for a while!

The geese and I have been fighting over whether the tarp should stay on the woodpile. They sometimes pull it part way off while I'm at work, so the wood has gotten wet. I've got two loads of firewood de- icing near the woodstove right now! I filled up two more gallon jugs with water today, so must now have about forty stashed away - just in case. I plan on staying home tomorrow!

John D checking in from beautiful Elk County Pa. I found out that my ruler is defective today. The weatherman said we were only going to get 3-4 inches today, more overnight and even more thru tomorrow night. Total accumulation of 8-16 inches. Well about an hour or so ago, I went out and measured and found the snow to be 7 inches deep. Must be a defective ruler, 'cause we all know that the weatheman is never wrong. :)

Supplies wise, I'm as ready as I can be. Plenty in the fridge, freezer and pantry. My only concern is the roads. I do medical transports for a living, and my dialysis patients HAVE to go, regardless of the weather. It's a 90 mile loop that I do twice a day, three days a week. If it were any other day but Monday, we could postpone til the next day. But these two went in last on Friday, and you can only go for 2 days without treatment, without risking near fatal illness. So, tomorrow, snow or shine, 2 inches or 12, I'll be out "playing" in the snow. Wish me luck. John

We ran out of wood too. Had my husband cut a tree up that was down but out of the snow. Then my son and I hauled it up on a sled, split the larger pieces and stacked it all away. Husband thinks it's too wet to burn but I say, as long as it's not green, it'll burn. My father-in-law keeps giving us pine scraps from a local lumberyard so I'll make it burn.

We are expecting two feet, some rain inbetween. I already called out in work, put away some water (although last time I melted snow for the animals) and when I stopped by the supermarket, I turned around and walked out. What a madhouse, didn't need anything THAT bad, although toilet paper was on sale.

Four more years until we can retire and move south!

where is my suntan lotion? i left it somewhere. here in oklahoma city, its supposed to be about 60 degrees for the next few days.

i feel for you guys. a few years ago, i think it was 1996, i got caught in a major snowstorm in buffalo new yawk. during a 24 hour period, it snowed 36 inches. and that did NOT include the snow before or after that particular 24 hour period. it snows for several days without stopping, but during that particular 24 hours it snowed like crazy, 36 inches. it was over 60 inches in a couple days of nonstop snowing. at the time, i was driving as a long haul trucker, and i sure decided i liked it where it was warm and sunny lol

We have 16" of snow right now, and we're supposed to get more through tomorrow afternoon. The forecast calls for up to 30+" locally, I can believe it the way it's snowing. The wind is coming up and there's supposed to be gusts to 35 mph this afternoon and tonight. Everything is closed, only emergency travel allowed on the roads.

I'm just wondering how long the power will stay on when those winds start.

Here in the tri-state area ( onthe Delaware) I suppose we've gotten about 7 inches so far...I'm equipped with propane everything so I think well be allright. yesterday people almost trampled me in Turkey Hill, and I thought I'd have to fight for a gallon of milk, I told the guy next to me to take a DEEP BREATH and RELAX.... did God say the end of the Earth was here? Did I miss this announcement?? I love these type of storms, but I long for Spring. I saw daffs up on the river edge where there is full sun (SUN?did someone say sun???) Will they die under this snowfall?? I hope not. I hope all of you have cozied up your livestock and brought in your "outside" dogs. BE safe on the roads if you must. Michele

Here down south, a bit west of Portland, we have a full fledged nor'easter going as I write this (10 pm Monday). Over a foot right now, another foot plus expected, and winds up to 70 mph. We got all the snow, I guess. We have about 26 inches on the ground and it's still snowing to beat the band. My poor beagle can't walk by himself he has to follow one of the big dogs. The snow is up past Fiona the Naughty Nubian's belly--I had to dry her udder off when she came in from "helping" me clean stalls.

I am *so* ready for school to open again. If I have to go one more day of my daughters bickering I'll go insane. I'm trying to keep them busy but they whine incessantly. I love them dearly but I cannot take another day of this--2 days of being stuck in a cabin is enough. They're going to live in the barn if school's cancelled tomorrow.

Well, so the weatherman fibbed a little! The snow is over here on Penobscot Bay, just lots of wind. All in all we got about 8". Started as light snow about 10p.m. Monday and only had 2" or so in the morning. By 4p.m. today it was over. Not as much as you received in the Portland area, Brad. I'm ready for spring now!!! Hope you all in the N.Y. survived okay.

Well we are about 30 miles north of Albany in a town called Schaghticoke and we got 30 inches of new snow from this last storm...Guess what? I just heard another several inches is coming on Friday. The kids love it...they don't get to miss school because we homeschool. My 5 year old is afraid he will get lost and I won't be able to find him in the snow....DH got plow truck stuck in the ditch between our driveways....farmer up the road helped him out....we can't find our garbage can under all the piles....lost one shovel that the kids left out somewhere....all the list just goes on and on. As for having been prepared...yes, plenty of food on hand. Thanks for listening....

I live in central maine. we got about 15 inches from the "big storm" and another 10 on friday. i am really tired of snow but we live in maine for heaven sakes! what do you expect! i am also tired of the hype. we have more snow now than we have had in years. but even so it's the hype that make the snow storms worse, not the snow.
