why is quarts the main ingredient insand when it is so hard to weather?

i know that quarts is the hardest mineral to weather because of it's silicon structure. so there fore why is there so much sand.

In class Dr. Gabel said that since quartz doesnt weather easily the sand wont break down over time like most other minerals, so whatever sand we have stays around for a long time.
