What do you think about popular TV today?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : actualsize : One Thread

Do you enjoy the shows that are currently available on network TV, or are you depressed about where our entertainment industry is headed?

Let me stress that I'm not on some "clean up TV" campaign or anything... I'm just bewildered that people actually watch this stuff. Is it just me?

Quite frankly, I think that the tv shows of today SUCK!!! I hardly ever watch tv, if I do, it's always old shows--Nik at Nite, or my favorite, Hawaii 5-0. I'd much rather read a good mystery or get online than put on the tv. So, no it's not just you. ---Dawn

Rigel and I don't watch much TV either. Aside from stuff like The Simpsons, Futurama, Malcolm in the Middle, X-Files, and BattleBots. As far as reality-based stuff goes, we stick to the severe weather documentaries on the Weather Channel. (Though I must admit, we're also guilty of tuning in to watch World's Scariest Police Chases pretty frequently.)

As for the appeal of "Reality TV", my guess would be that it's getting harder and harder to shock people these days. We were watching TV Funhouse a few weeks ago (we're almost ashamed to admit we watch that) and I commented, "Remember back in the old days when we wondered how they could get away with the stuff on The Simpsons?"

Didn't Timothy McVeigh just request to have his execution televised? *shudders*

I think today shows sucks! I rather check out my home computer and see whats on than the t.v. My favorites is not there any more. The morality on this planet is gone. Children watches too much t.v.,no wounder children are killing each other.

i find tv and commericals appalling.it is embarrassing to wtch tv with your child and see someone open kissing on a commerical or program.i was watching catdog from nickalodeon and the characters mooned the teacher,or what about watching also nick channel and finding out the program "told by ginger"was about french kissing.this was on childrens programming.the i seen a little bit of ally mcbeal and she was kissing another woman open mouthed.this kind of programming should be on hbo.but not on regular tv.
