New kit launch day and the Official Site isn't working.

What a shambles!

What do we all think of it?

It's on my frontpage along with the official description

Or if you can't be arsed to look at my drivel

Well, I think it's bloody ghastly.

The Ronnie reckons the 3 stripe shirt is a throw-back to the turn of the century. That's as may be, but for me it doesn't even look remotely like an NUFC strip - the latest sick joke perpetrated by a hierarchy who are now displaying a lack of understanding of, and appreciation for, the sanctity of the Club's heritage. Commercial expediency has finally taken absolute and total precedence over our proud heritage.

This is almost the final straw for me.

although i actually quite like it, i have to agree with clarky's comments.

it's just not 'US'.

I'm presuming the thinking behind it goes: we need to sell more shirts, increase revenue, especially overseas. Well, we've got this radical design. you know the black away shirt sold well this season? well, it's similar to that. We also reckon that it'll sell well overseas, create a bit of controversy [always good for a sale] and we can sell it to the folk on tyneside by telling them it'sa throw back to the turn of the century kit. Then, in two years time, we'll revert back to a more classic kit, pretending that this was never really a great kit and sell loads more.

If anyone's interested in the marketing of big business , i suggest you read No Logo by Naomi Klein. Fascinating and frightening stuff.

I must be one of the few people that actually like it. ;-)

The only bit I'm not thrilled with is the neck. It's way too tight to the neck. Just like the round-collar one of a few season's ago, this one is likely to cut off circulation to some of our more addle-minded players (*cough*dabizas*cough*) causing them to do daft things on the pitch. Probably.

If they really want to sell loads of shirts, they should return to the grandfather collar one from 96(?). I'd put in a pre-order and pay for overseas shipping(not through the extortion page of the official s*ite mind) so I could have it asap!

As I said before, it's more like an away strip. I can take a fashion item as a change strip, but I'm leaning towards Clarky's thoughts. Maybe it will grow on me - especially if I don't wash.

Saw Harper and Barton modelling this on the news tonight and it looks a lot better when people aren't pretending to be table-footballers. It is the Juve strip from 3 seasons back with a different collar. True cynics would say that it emphasises ntl first and foremost and I'm sure that buff or macbeth will be along in a minute to point out that if it looks better when you can see the player's arms then it will also have been designed with Warren's particular strength in mind. Rotten buggers. I wouldn't mind if it wasn't so funny :-)

Hmmm...yeah, the logo does show up a bit better on the new kit. Instead of totally disappearing amongst the stripes, it now looks like "n l:" ;-)

Don't like. Plain and simple. I just don't like it. Seems to me this could be an omen. Wear a strip that looks like a third division outfit and perhaps that's what we will become. Gimme back the stripes, lots of them, thats what we wear, thats who we are. Too much black in this strip. Yes, it's an omen.

Don't like it either. Was it purely designed to enhance the NTL logo? Glad they got rid of the white socks, but the shirt doesn't look like a Newcastle top. Agree with Min on Naomi Klein's "No Logo". Disturbing and informative reading, highly recommended. Not sure I'll buy any Nike, Adidas, Reebock clobber ever again after reading it.

Some of 'us oldies' still rememeber when and why the background to the Newcy Brown Ale labels was changed from white to black.

Let's hope this change doesn't bring back similar memories.

I think it's excellent. OK so it's different from recent seasons, so what, Why should it be the same, year in year out? Do the people who don't like it buy every new B/w shirt that ever comes out? I will buy this shirt because it looks like a NEW SHIRT. If it had been similar to the last one then I probably would have stuck with my old one.The idea of bringing out new shirts is to raise funds for the club, so they have to come up with something that'll sell. And I reckon this will be a best seller.

Not sure about Shay's top though. I was told that Newcastle were considering purple, but I thought they were talking about the away shirt. I wonder what they have in store for us with that one?

Stevo

Amazing reading isn't it? I'm only through chapter 4 and it's not opening my eyes as such, just clarifying what i always thought and felt. And it's not good.

Watch out for me at the next G8 summit....

Have to pick up that book, Stevo and Min. Sounds interesting. It does seem you can't get away from logo these days. And the influence of these big corporations on govt is one (of many ;-)) ) of my pet peeves.
