Nikon coolpix 990 Flash

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Digital photography technique : One Thread

I have a Nikon Coolpix 990 And I want to buy the Flash bracket to avoid the red eye I'm getting on my pictures. I want to know if I can use a cheaper brand (Vivitar, Sunpak) of Flash to go with it. The SB-28 is a little bit too expensive. Thanks.

You most definitely can and should! I use a cheap folding "L" bracket and a Vivitar 433D. No more red eye and the reach of the flash is great. The on board 990 flash is not worth the aggravation of using once you have a separate flash. Unless you forget to bring the off camera flash. Just be sure the flash you choose triggers at less than or equal to the coolpix voltage. Happy shooting.
