Shearer if crocked??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Not wanting to jump the gun or wish for anything untoward to happen to Shearer......but if this specialist says that Alan is crocked for good. Does anyone know what the club has insured him for??

You'd have to go by curent market value because I can't see the insurers paying out £15 million!

If he is knackered I hope we've got some deals lined up to bring in some firepower this afternoon. Robson has already shown he hasn't got the faith in Cordone to play him.

I would say if it was current market value and he's crocked he's worth nothing ?

This visit to America would seem to be the last straw for Alan and if the decision goes against him we could have seen the last of him in a Toon shirt.

Were we able to insure him when we extended his contract? That must surely be the crux of the matter. I would have thought not.

The published accounts showed some years ago that he was uninsurable at any price for anything arising as a result of a groin problem. Oooer missus, gotta rephrase that one. Still, you know what I mean.

It was widely reported in the press at the time. Exclusion clauses have not been publicly mentioned since then, but I would be amazed if there were not a rather large number of them now, in light of his injury history.

I take note of these things, as I have used the example of AS's uninsurable groins for a while now in lecturing on health. Specifically that the cold equations which actuaries use confirm that once any of your systems are damaged through injury or illness, your prospects will never be as good again. No matter how clever the restorative technology. Yet we continue to spend vast sums on devising cleverer and cleverer ways to fail quite to restore heath, in conmparison to spending peanuts on ways to prevent ill-health in the first place.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... oh sorry, got a bit carried away again...

Despite shaving his beard off to deflect unwanted attention from himself, the bbs's very own Harold Shipman visited another lonely thread and gave it a lethal injection. Who can say whether or not he smiled as the discussion about the insurability of Alan Shearer slipped quietly away...;-)

Ahahaha, you've noticed then.

Look it was a kindness really. It was probably in a lot of pain and would have been grateful for the release. Just look on me as "the old threads' friend". Costs a fortune for the bliddy diamorph mind, and none of the b*ggers leave me anything in their will. Cheapskates.

Next time I'm going for another MO - Hannibal Lecter perhaps - maybe have an old friend for dinner tonight.... ;-))
