Natural Stone Masonry/Chimney Design

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am planning to build a hearth and chimney for a woodburning stove. My design for the interior of the chimney is to use concrete block masonry and flue tile - covering the outside with rock veneer. I also plan to rock veneer my home. Can anyone recommend some good books, magazine articles or web sites on natural stone masonry/chimney design? Thanks in advance to all who can help get me out from between a rock and a hard place.

Hope you have more luck than I've had trying to find good info Paul! I'm building my house with stone and concrete and I just had to practice on small projects and teach myself because of lack of info. Every time I saw a pro working in town I asked for tips but they would'nt give me the time of day. Secrets I guess. Anyway if I can be of help just ask although mine's not veneer. I've posted some picts on the countryside friends site if a visual helps. good luck...Kirk

There was a thread about a week ago about building with cob which I found extremely interesting. It might help you a bit.

I've been contractor and stone mason for twenty five years. I'd be happy to help you out but I need more information. I surfed in here and the chances are I won't be back.

Send me an email. I need to know what size rock, style you want, exposed mortar or hidden.
