Is There Such Alumni Support in the Church of Allen?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

At the urging of a cousin, I attended the annual lecture series sponsored by American Baptist College, Nashville, Tn.

I saw alumnia at the late night service, 10:00 p.m., following a lecture and a sermon walk as the musicians played and contribute $ 3,800 each night.

On Wednesday night, the Reverend, Doctor Julius Scruggs of First Baptist Church, Huntsville, Alabama, presented a check for $ 500,000.00 from the reserve fund of First Baptist.

Later, I spoke with a General Officer who merely stated that we have the capability to do the same thing.

ANOTHER THING I PICKED UP ON: Students are encouraged to go from ABT and persue whatever other training they desire. When they are called to a church they are able to contribute to the church rather than be dependent on a congregation. They are a blessing to a congregation and GOD continues to bless!

In three years the Baptist Minsiter cousin will retire for active service and devote the remaing time solely to the church which has grown during his seven year tenure. The benefit package recently upgraded for the pastor is for his successors. Two other ministers called by GOD are able to attend ABC due to the local church paying thier tuition. The lectures and preaching were challenging and refreshing.
