Does Canon make a cord for using a speedlite 177 on a canon ae1 while maintaining ae functions(like when the flash is mounted on the hot shoe).

Canon off-camera shoe cord 2 for EOS will do the trick. A bit expencive maybe, but a useful gadged. It works with all A and T series cameraes, as well as EOS.

Canon didn't make one.

There is also the Duo Sync cord that is made for A series cameras to remote the with all functions operating.

You can find them occasionally on eBay or sometimes at camera stores in some dusty corner.
