Army Plane Crash in Germany Killed Two, Officials Say The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) - An Army reconnaissance plane crashed Monday in Germany, killing two people on board, U.S. officials said. Details were sketchy, but officials said the plane crashed on approach to Nuremberg airport.

Two Pentagon officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the aircraft was an RC-12, a twin-propeller plane that operates the Guardrail electronic intelligence collection system. It is used to detect, identify and precisely locate potentially hostile sources of communications, radars and other electronic signals.

German state police said the plane crashed about seven miles east of Nuremberg.

It does seem odd for three planes to go down in one day.
